I wonder tactically, what CK plan is. All year he played a certain system, and then abandoned it for the Meath game, and we conceded 27 points. In the league, it finished 0-11, to 0-10, so id expect it to be cagey again. If we scrape through, then we will meet one of the big guns, so our summer will be over soon enough.

Longford have some notable wins in the qualifiers down through the years. This includes knocking out Derry three times, Down and Monaghan twice, Mayo and Cavan. If it's anything like the league match earlier on this year wee will be in for a typical Wee County tense nervous affair. Here is the team that I would go with if everyone is fit and rearing to go:

1- C. Lynch
2- P. Rath
3- P. Reilly
4- J. Bingham
5- D. Byrne
6- J. Stewart
7- A. Williams
8- T. Durnin
9- J. Califf
10- A. Mc Donnell
11- P. Smith
12- B. Duffy
13- J. Mc Eneaney
14- E. O Connor
15- R. Burns

I expect a return to a sweeper for Saturday. It will be tough, but that said, we should be beating Longford at home. Promotion in the league and two championship wins would constitute progress this year. I agree Ollie that Califf probably deserves a start after the last day. I would have Darren McMahon at right half back though. I would also take Bevan Duffy into the middle. We need greater physical presence in stopping teams running through us. I would also be looking at Derek Crilly in the backs, given that Liam Dullaghan seems injured. So, I would go with
Lynch, Rath, Reilly, Williams, McMahon, Crilly, Stewart, Duffy, Califf, McDonnell, Smith, Durnin, Burns, McEneaney, O'Connor.
That would leave Byrne, McKeever, McSorley, Holdcroft etc to come and add pace and scoring options. It is promised a nice evening on Saturday so hopefully a decent crowd, and a good performance.

It's a strange game because we did abandon 2 years of formation and it back fired so we can expect a sweeper. Kinda felt a little bit annoyed at Maguire after the game.there was great optimism this year that a corner had been turned and maybe we could end the run against Meath.its been difficult to replace Maguire. I'll go with
Lynch

Rath
Reilly
Carr

Bingham
Murphy
Stewart

Durnin
McDonnell

Williams
Pepe
Duffy
JMac
EOC
Crilly

My rationale is Crilly to drop and play sweeper.he's a physical lad who can read the game and has experience, could have put Dullaghan in there also but i heard he has broken finger or two.I think Murphy has the ability and is physical also.
I Dont think Williams is a defender he goes forward too much that there is gaping holes at the back. We need to get compact and I think him and Duffy have the work rate for half forward and let Pepe concentrate on forward play.I dropped Burnsey cuz he looks short confidence .Jim looks dangerous all the time and can also hit frees.
Just my opinion here but I'd like to see it a bit different. We need to tighten that back line up with natural defenders but ability to drive up if needed with Stewart and Bingham.

The goalkeeper was one of our big problems the last day. We need a change for this game. I would bring back Gally . I agree too that Dereck Crilly has a lot to offer still . Burnsey has loads of talent . The corner doesn't suit him. Put him on the wing and he might shine. I would make the following changes to Ollie's team :-
1 Gally
11. Duffy
12 . Burnsey
15. Crilly

publishing team midweek is a joke as it will not the team that will appear on the match programme, and then the team that is listed per programme will not be the be the same as the one that takes, also the bench is never named in advance

Thursday night is not mid-week but I agree with you on a team been named and it's not the same one that starts.

Show me any other team sport that demands that teams be named before the final training session has been held.

Greengrass of the top my head I can't think of any. That's why the GAA is so unique.
