I'm lead to believe the departure of David Franks and Jason Ryan left insurmountable issues and the setup broke down entirely.

Looking in from the outside and I have no links what so ever with anybody in the Wexford setup but the set up last year was a complete shambles.

Were you at any Wexford matches this year?

I know he is now KK manager, but was Shefflin approached by our co board? icehonesty (Wexford) - Posts: 2598 - 08/07/2026 12:32:15 2684813 Link 0 |

There's a few on that list that would make you think we would have better sticking with Rossiter.

Every one of those lads listed is streets ahead of Rossiter, with all due respect.

Very few of the names you mentioned have been involved in managing/coaching at Senior inter-county level recently Shefflin, Brennan, Dowling, Lyng, and Pat Ryan, maybe John Meyler and Kieran Kingston if you want to stretch things back a bit I think KK have made the wrong choice with Shefflin and both Lyng and Brennan were involved with their Seniors this year so I don't think KK people were too happy with them so really you're left with just Dowling and Ryan ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 1435 - 08/07/2026 16:13:29 2684851 Link 0 |

With all due respect some of those lads best days are behind them, and others havent had any real success to speak of. Some are over 70. Some of them are living an unfeasibly long distance away too. One would be unlikely to want to do the job after what happened last time. Some were great players OK, but are very inexperienced managers, and havent been really successful in intercounty jobs considering the resources they had . John Allen and Michael Ryan are the most successful on that list but those successes were over 20 and over 10 years ago now. Brian Dowling is probably the best fit for us on your list, but has committed to Kildare for another year only this week. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 20251 - 08/07/2026 16:25:08 2684853 Link 0 |

I went to them all. We were unfit and poorly coached. Even body language was way off as the season progressed. Even with that we were a good save and one poor decision away from promotion and a league final. In the championship we were good against Kildare, shocking in the second half in Kilkenny, poor against Dublin but rallied at the end, well on top in tullamore before we lost basically our whole defence, excellent in the first half against Galway before we collapsed. A bad season, but all problems than can be solved with the right set up on and off the pitch. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 4602 - 08/07/2026 17:50:42 2684864 Link 0 |

I know lads think Im overly positive Doyler, but we werent great against Kildare, their lack of panel depth probably saved us from a nailbiting finish and maybe a loss. We were awful against Kilkenny in both halves, Kilkenny were very poor too in that game. We only started playing in the last quarter against Dublin, which along with the 1st quarter against Galway were our only 2 good quarters all championship. We were OK against Offaly in the 1st half. Agree we werent as fit as we needed to be, and we were tactically poor. We also seemed completely bereft of any belief. I dont think the issue with most of the players is that they arent technically good enough or arent fast enough, but most of them need to be braver, with and without the ball. At least die trying. Agree a good management team would help solve some or most of our problems this year. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 20251 - 08/07/2026 18:55:47 2684868 Link 0 |

None of those listed are inexperienced managers. All have managed at intercounty level in the past. I don't know where you are getting that any on that list are inexperienced. Several were quite successful or had positive impacts on the teams they managed. You might think Derek Lyng was underwhelming for example, but he won three Leinsters in a row and brought a poor KK team to an All Ireland final in 2023 and two league finals. Our last two managers had never managed at intercounty level before, both had really poor tenures as Wexford manager. Being a coach with an experienced manager is very different to being the main man yourself. Hopefully Pat Ryan takes it, because if you're dismissing the names I've given, we'll just be taking a flyer again on someone with no real experience or pedigree. icehonesty (Wexford) - Posts: 2598 - 09/07/2026 00:40:55 2684885 Link 0 |
