Very experimental team that started against Coolderry last week. Anyone know who Donagh Maher is and is he any good? Also Shane McGrath at centre forward was tried before and didn't work, are we looking for a new midfield player instead of Shane after the all-ireland final. Who's Gerry Walsh? Glad to see O'Brien, Shane Maher and Pat Kerwick back. Anyone know anything about David Collins?

Donogh Maher is from burgess and is a younger brother of former county player Shane. Very very quick, good enough player, havent seem him play much in recent years but iirc is an excellant wing and corner back

I hope Shane Maher keeps up his form. If he does, i think he will be a starter come championship. Has the physicality and ability to catch the ball that O'Keefe lacked last year. Also he's vying with his brother Donogh for the same position, so hopefully he can pass on his experience. I was bemused by Mcgrath being placed at centre field. Johnny Ryan will put him under a lot of pressure for his spot. I thought Shane was poor enough last year so maybe they want to make him a bit more versatile. Gerry Ryan and James Barry have impressed in the full back line. Adrian Ryan has impressed in the forwards also.

Ballon: I'd espect Tipp to win to keep up momentum but the performance of the newcomers will be most important. Eoin is back already, he scored 4 points the last game,he knows he has a point to prove after last year.

Shocking conditions but big enough crowd turned up for game in nenagh today. Didnt go but heard both mahers from burgess played well. Would guess that the standard wasnt great as underfoot conditions were poor for playing rugby today nevermind hurling

Ryan tickled pink as Tipperary outscore Munster selection
Tipperary 1-19 Munster 1-13
By Shane Brophy

Monday, January 30, 2012

A second string Tipperary side eased to victory against a strong Munster selection in a charity game at Nenagh on Saturday which raised over €7,000 for Breast Cancer Ireland.

The game was hugely beneficial for Tipp boss Declan Ryan, who got to see 32 of his players in action with 10 Premier Co players featuring for the provincial side, managed by former All-Ireland winning boss Liam Sheedy.

Munster, in preparation for the Inter-provincial semi-final against Leinster next month, began the brighter and led 1-6 to 0-3 after 17 minutes, the goal coming from Patrick 'Bonner' Maher. Tipp responded with five unanswered points to cut the margin to one at half time. The momentum remained with Tipperary on the restart with John O'Brien and Timmy Hammersley impressing. The winner's goal came in the 47th minute from John O'Neill.

TIPPERARY: D Gleeson; C O'Brien, TStapleton, G Walsh; J Coghlan, S Maher, S Lillis; D Young (0-2), J Ryan (0-1); P Kerwick (0-1), P Murphy, D Collins; J O'Brien (0-4), B O'Meara (0-2), T Hammersley (0-9, 3f).

Subs: P Stapleton for Lillis (ht); J Logue for Gleeson; A Ryan for Kerwick; P Bourke for Collins (all 42); J O'Neill (1-0) for O'Meara (44); J O'Keeffe for Maher (47); J Woodlock for Young (56).

For Sunday's eagerly-awaited Division One encounter at Nowlan Park, manager Declan Ryan names two debutants: Donagh Maher comes in at right corner back and Adrian Ryan is named at left half forward.

David Young, more commonly selected at wing back, partners Brendan Maher in midfield.

As well as the recently-retired Lar Corbett, goalkeeper Brendan Cummins, 2011 captain Eoin Kelly, Shane McGrath, Seamus Callanan and Patrick Maher are all omitted.

Tipperary (NHL V Kilkenny): D Gleeson; D Maher, P Curran, M Cahill; S Maher, C O'Mahony, P Maher; B Maher, D Young; G Ryan, N McGrath, A Ryan; P Bourke, B O'Meara, J O'Brien.

Tipp were supposedly very poor with the only sources of encouragement from Shane Bourke and Donagh Maher
Only 1 of the starting 6 forwards scoring from play with the full forward line not scoring at all

Ya tipp were very poor, backs played well but our forwards were poor I thought. Too soft getting pushed off the ball to easily, alot of ground to make up already but Shane bourke did look good after coming on.

Shane Bourke destroyed us in Salthill last year and is flying in the Fitzgibbon this year. Why is he not getting his game is beyond me. Then he comes on at H-T yesterday and is joint top scorer from play!

Throw in at 1 p. m. Is that a misprint. Surely the Munster Council have more respect for spectators than to fix a 1 p. m. throw in.
