Louth V Carlow

Agree MR you should only change when you have to . We have to win to-morrow night to be free of relegation worries and to stay in promotion race. Last two games with Westmeath and Down will be tough. The two big concerns I have are our kick- outs and holding possession in the middle. So I think we have to have changes.

That's twice now this week you've posted about Louth changing their midfield for this game.Tommy durnin got on the hoganstand 'all Ireland' team of the week so your probably the only person in Ireland who would dream of putting someone else in midfield in his place,he was man of the match against Laois too.So your either a bitter junior footballer for a club he plays against or just deluded either way nobody will back you up.Tommy is easily our no1 midfielder in this county & will be for a few years to come.Big Jim is injury prone the last few years better as an impact sub now, stick to the same team tomorrow and then unleash a few hungry subs to finish the game off.Best of luck lads

You must be very confident of beating Carlow if you are only worried about your last 2 games.
Methinks you are in for a shock tomorrow night in Netwatch Cullen Park.
BEWARE

Maith a bhuchail. Welcome. You will make an impact.
I'm also reflecting what a lot of people round me said at recent games. It's just an honest opinion.
Looking forward to cheering the lads on in Carlow. Good luck to whoever is playing.
By the way I don't think the team of the week necessarily lined out in their selected positions for their county.

No one on here is being dismissive or arrogant about facing Carlow. We all know how tough it will be. It's strange that you are looking to criticise comments that haven't been made.

I'm hoping we have an actual tactical plan for this game. When we met Carlow in the championship last year, we continously ran into the tackle, leading to turnovers that lead to the majority of Carlow's scores. Laois beat Carlow 3 times last year by avoiding running straight at them and instead drawing Carlow out. Let's hope the management team have a better approach this time around.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Most Louth supporters know that there is little between any of the counties in Division 3. We took some awful beatings last year, including a championship hammering in Portlaoise. However, a few wins and some of our lads are playing with more confidence. That would be my reading of the optimism. Are Carlow confident?

Let's face it, the referee was a disgrace tonight. However, we need to be wise. Two red cards and three frees moved into scoring positions is just madness. When we keep 15 on the pitch we win and tonight if we had 15 with the breeze we would have won. So let's learn from this and win the last two. Good to see Callo come in and do so well and some other positives as well. Let's learn and move on

I see that 86 people turned up a home league game for the county that tonight's referee was from. Not much more to be said about football knowledge there. I had more at my child's birthday party...

We might have a chance of beating Westmeath but can't see us beating Down. But either way we're safe from relegation more or less with Sligo & Offaly struggling at the bottom.I think we're better off staying in div 3 for another year anyway, blooding a younger team this year and maybe div 2 might be a step too far just yet I'd imagine.Roll on the championship with no pressure bring it on.

Louth were very poor last night and that was the worst that I have seen them in the league this year. The ref was unreal. What is it with Louth and refs? Louth can still get promoted. Wee just need Sligo to beat Westmeath today and next week wee need to beat Westmeath, Sligo to beat Westmeath, Offaly to beat Laois and Down to beat Carlow. Get the rosary beads out.

Ollie if I'm honest I'd say we be better off staying in this division for another year, a young team that is not ready for a move up.
This should be a long term project for this manager and players, don't want a repeat of last year

Last night was extremely disappointing, particularly in the 1st half. We just seemed to be clueless when it came to combating their defensive system. We either ran straight at them (and got turned over) or we played the ball into our full forward line, who were outnumbered time and again. The 2nd half was a massive improvement and on another day, we might have got something from the game. The ref needs to be mentioned as i would describe him as incompetent at best. 4 times, Louth players were body checked off the ball, yet he only black carded one of their players, which amounts to ignoring the rules. Apart from that, he seemed to ignore blatant fouls on us (many of which were in scoreable positions). The fact that Carlow were awarded 23 frees to our 12 in the game, tells it's own story. As others have said on here, staying in division 3 isn't the worse thing for this side. The reality is we lost to a 2nd string Longford side, needed an OG to beat Offaly and lost to an average Carlow side, so division 3 is a realistic level for Louth to develop.

Apart from the ref and the Carlow tactics we had the winning of the game to ourselves. Bad decision making on and off the field cost us.e.g. Poor kick-outs, high kicks in to Sam on his own with 3 or 4 backs around him, running into blockages and getting turned over, losses in the middle, etc, etc. If just two had gone our way we had two more points. We were that close.

A few things puzzled me:-
- why was Jim taken off at 55 minutes
- why was Ross Nally not taken on until the 79th minute,
- why was Brendan Murphy given so much freedom
- why do we always get junior refs
