Kerry V Cavan

Yes I agree with you re Fionn he would be ideal of Dunne, I also think Crowley has the physical attributes for number 6, with Young tailing Mackey, Young is more suited to the wing and has done ideal marking jobs on the likes of Pat Kelly from Cork in the past who plays a similar game, Mackey is a fair bit physical though and I'd be weary that he could out muscle Young. I also think the forward movement will be slightly less fluent with Donaghy inside, the only thing I can think of is if Cavan flood the defence we have an option of an intelligent high ball delivered by Cooper into Donaghy that should be more favourable to the 40/60 ball that was being just pumped in, I'd say if Donaghy starts inside it will be a more controlled version of both the long high diagonal ball and the fast offload running game. Hopefully the benching of Donaghy will have a positive effect on the young lad and he'll be rearing to go an prove everyone wrong on Sunday, he hasn't become a bad player overnight the key is how to utilise him to his full potential that will invariably benefit the team.

As pointed out by Kingdom boy1… our bench has a nice mix of players both with experience and youth, back and forwards and players that can play ain a verity of positions

Both teams also played eachother in the 1925 Semi Final, Kerry won it but there was a dispute and both were disqualified!

1925 was an odd Championship! Galway beat Mayo in Connacht but the Connacht Championship was not finished in time so Mayo were nominated to represent Connacht. When Kerry and Cavan were disqualified, Mayo had no team to play in the All-Ireland final. So because Galway beat Mayo in the Connacht final, the GAA awarded the All-Ireland to Galway! This didn't go down well so they restarted the championship with Kerry, Cavan, Wexford and Galway. Kerry wanted their original win against Cavan to stand but the GAA wouldn't allow it and ordered a replay. Kerry refused and pulled out. Galway then beat Cavan in the Final. Gas times!

Sherwood definitely has potential, hopefully we'll see more of him during the league next year.

Ah lads this years isn't even over and we are discussing players for next years already, but Ya he has a future and a bit like Lynn he is versatile and can play wing back or wing forward, Griffin too should be give the number 3 for the most of the league and give him time to bed into the position. But back now the Sunday… lets concentrate on this year ya!

I think Cavan will be lucky to keep it under 10 points with this experienced Kerry team. Boys against men.
We are 2/3 years away from mounting a serious challenge.

Well said Cavan slasher that is how I see this one going, maybe even a wider margin than 10points!These Kerry lads going on about 1925 and playing it like "oooooohhhhhh its a tight one,Cavan big team!merit, tradition!"I mean John joe Reilly is not playing for god sake.

Yeah some mad things happened in those years.
According to the local paper the 1937 Final with Cavan and Kerry was another bizarre one.
Cavan scored a point in the dying seconds and took the lead; the radio commentator didn't notice that the referee disallowed it for an alleged infringement
and announced that Cavan had won the game. When the supporters got home they found bonfires burning and celebrations!
Cavan lost the replay. Hope it doesn't happen again on Sunday on Northern Sound!

It's nice to know thing have improved in the last 80 years in the GAA , but back to the weekends match, I was at the Kerry training yesterday evening and they looked good. Although Sheehan looked to be limping a bit.

1450940 Good luck Sunday lads and safe trip, ye'll probably outnumber us 4:1 but we'll make ourselves heard alright!

Thanks for that. I dont think there will be any cross words between us as we are 2 real footballing counties and always show respect for each other. I have a feeling it could be a humdinger and may the best team win.
Up Cavan!!

And best of luck to the lads on Sunday can't wait :-). Ciarrai abu.

What ye make of Dublin's display, fair impressive, they totally dominated a superior Cork Mid Field pairing, if the forwards were not as selfish they could have had 3-4 more goals, but they are seriously venerable under the high Ball, I hope that if we get past Cavan, that we expose this but not let it dominate our forward play. But in saying that Cork gave them trouble today with a manager who I think is tactically niave, I think Fitz in this regard is streets ahead and should have the measure of how to progress further. This I all though the Dubs were impressive at stages.
