the manager of wicklow has said for wicklow supporters to come out in force for match against antrim to make it a full house give this team the support they deserve in this leaque. The support i think makes a big difference the team knows they have good following behind them . wicklow in my view have a great change at promotion up wicklow .

As usual Division 4 is proving to be as predictable as a childs behind.

Regarding support, I recall Antrim coming down to play us in Division 3 and there was about 30 people at the game. 5 of them had travelled from Ballymurphy.

If we are to be promoted (please god we are) it will be with a weaker team than the last time we reached Division 3. Which was an awful campaign following the previous great year, Harry Murphy was at the helm at the time. Attendances were absymal and we regressed hugely over the years since that relegation.

I hope to god the next time we go up (sooner rather than later) we can consolidate and build on it. Points made about Carlow are very well made, promotion is great but the effect of a poor campaign in Division 3 cannot be understated.

In relation to supporters not turning out, I would like to make a couple of points. Firstly, the weather at this time of the year doesn't make for attractive fare on the field as the ground is heavy; worse for hurling than football. Plus it is not attractive for attending matches in such conditions. Also, I think the county board should move the games around the county. Kerry and Donegal, both counties like Wicklow geographically move the league games to different parts of the county and play some of the league games under light. I think this same strategy should be tried in wicklow and I believe more people would attend. Sunday afternoon in aughrim does suit everyone especially if you have to travel a long distance. Finally, I think there is a certain degree of apathy towards the intercounty scene in the gaa generally. Move towards elitism, corporate interest ahead of grassroots, detachment by croke park towards player welfare, most people have more of an attachment to the club scene now and can live without inter county games.

Will Wicklows game against Antrim be postponed now due to a St Galls member contracting Caronavirus?

Also wishing Don Jackman a speedy recovery.

Good luck to the team and management on Sunday for our most important game in recent years. The team will have to put in a solid performance over the whole game for the full70-75minutes to overcome Antrim a team we always find difficult to beat. Hopefully the home support and home venue will give us that bit extra to get us over the line. It will be vital that the forwards make it really difficult for the Antrim backs to clear their lines and that at least one of our midfielders stay more defensive when his partner goes forward . I feel that our full back needs to remain in position to protect the middle and not allow open space in front of our goalkeeper. I urge every supporter to get our and roar on the team .

Is there anyone out there any the wiser whether we will see any championships at all this year. I am presuming if rugby or soccer come back then the GAA will be under pressure to have some form of championship whether it be club or county.

When I heard john horan on the Sunday game I wasn't overly confident that we would see any sport any all but now his latest comments along with with the fact that the IRFU and the FAI are planning for sport in August ,then optimism has sprung again.

I presume we are talking about knock out championship here in Wicklow in September Oct or Nov if at all.

Just a question ? Or am I being too optimistic.

I was interested to see the Sunday Game where Colm O'Rourke and the Galway hurler really put pressure on Dick Clerkin who just kept spinning the same lines. The most likely scenario is in my opinion; the pitches will open back up for walking track and other activities next Monday. Training will probably recommence after the next stage 29th June in small groups, Proper contact training on next phase 20th July with games resuming in August for clubs.
All this is provided things keep going as they have been with respect to covid numbers. The protests in Dublin wont have helped.
Colm O'Rourke seemed focused on getting children/ underage football and cul camps back. I don't want to start the 'open up' vs the 'pandemic panic' debate here as it seems to be on every other facet of social media. If they did come back however, I would have my young fella there but there are still a lot of paranoid cautious people out there so don't know what the uptake would be like.

Good to see that turnout in Ballinakill tonight. Mind you, I'm just going on what was on the 9'oclock news. I wouldn't know many of the players but they seemed a pretty young bunch, all in all. If enthusiasm counts for anything, we could have a few interesting moments over the coming months.

Yes, the next couple of months will be interesting. I think there is more room for optimism after the recent county championships where a number of young players put their hand up for inclusion in the Wicklow panel if there are willing to invest the time and effort to play for the county. I don't think we can assume that all young players will be willing or able to invest the time and effort for a variety of reason. This isn't just happening in Wicklow but across all counties. One of the things that might come of the pandemic is a reduction in the amount of time that an intercounty player is expected to give which is completely out of control and has been out of control for some time. I think the two league games are more important to Wicklow than the championship, having said that Wicklow are fully capable of beating Wexford in the first round. I would like to see us winning our last two games in the league and see if we can get promotion which would be huge and would help with the development of these young players coming through. I think Davey Burke will be more interested in the league in the next couple of years and promotion than in the championship especially if we are playing in the B championship which I think it is a bad idea for us as a county in terms of bringing through players.
