How good are Fethard going to be?

(Oldest Posts First)

ive had 3 people in the last 2 weeks telling me that fethard are going to win senior football in next couple of years.[ i admit one of them is fethard stalwart] that they have serious underage talent coming through. i stand to be corrected but they havent been winning loads of u21s and minor championships to warrant this optimism have they? [the other 2 guys werent from fethard]

fethard have a very good young team the likes of kevin rowe, darren foley, john tubritt, gareth foley, daniel mullan and a few others are very good footballers..they have been in a few finals up along the way but then again is that important you just have to look at shelmaliers they won most things the whole way up in both codes and they havent done much in either football or hurling in senior..i think in the next 2 or 3 years fethard will have a big say in the football championship.!

teams like shelmaliers and bunclody had strong minor teams year after year and neither have even come close to winning senior. so to say fethard will win senior off one good minor team is a bit optimistic, they are also romoured to have a big sign in their clubhouse which reads ``FETHARD SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONS 2017``. Easy say your going to do something , actually doing it tends to be a bit harder. My prediction is dat fethard will be exactly where they are now in a few years or maybe even lower if these young players emigrate looking for work

Talk is cheap, Fethard won't be anywhere near winning any senior titles for many a year. Few average underage players don't make a good senior team.

as already said, underage "success" doesnt guarantee senior success. Alho I'm not sure how much real success they have had underage. It took Horeswood a long time to progress from their good underage sides and Feile wins. And there have been many more sides with more underage success who havent brought it forward. And then you have other clubs with little or no success at underage who have won senior titles. They are 2 very different things, and you cant predict adult wins by underage teams from years past.

wont get carried away by fethards win last night, for the simple reason sars were absolutely terrible.but i will say fethard are very young and i dont think relegation will be a problem for fethard this year. they will probably go down now ive said that.

well, relegation is certainly not going to be an issue this year. fethard going really well 2 wins and a draw against county champs. only team not to be beaten by annes in last 2 years. how far can they go this year? also going great guns in intermediate a hurling. 2 wins out of 3.

they have been impressive all be it in a very weak group. My prediction is they`ll go down narrowly in the quarter finals but will be there or there abouts in the future. In intermediate hurling however they have a great chance. all th e best to them nice to see small clubs who put in the work underage doing well

well, will fethard win it this year? i fancy them to handle the townies in the semi final and one thing for sure a packed defence with forwards funneling back would be an absolute nightmare to play against on county final day.very fit young team who have a game plan that works for them, and fethard have savage record in do or die games. they have won a number of relegation finals in last few years.

Only saw them play once this year.. 2nd half v Castletown in the County QF.. horrible.. 13-14 men behind the ball and one lone forward (who did a very good job for them).

Whatever works for you I guess.. but I wouldn't relish watching them.

yeah i saw them playing annes in a brutal game in the league stages, 4 points each. red barry didnt get a kick in at full forward.

Fethard will be in trouble if they fall behind against the Sars, then they will havto attack which is not there way of playing, vital for the sars not to fall behind as fethard seem to drop 12/13 men behind the ball and leave rowe and tubritt in the full forward like but credit to them for getting so far with such a young team, two 17 year olds playing and i tink 10/11 are u 21.

have fethard really that many still u21? think theyll beat sars , already beat them easy earlier this year. also i would put more creedence on their win over castletown in quarter final than sars win over kilanerin. kilanerin were in total disarray, didnt want to play for their manager, also 40 per cent of the starting team were on the rip for 3 days of that week. whatever happens it will be a novel final. fethard won it in 98, not sure when the others won it. think sars might have won in 84?

Peter, will you give it a rest going on about Kilanerin and what you percieve as being problems there. You are nothing but a tittle tattle merchant spewing out half truths and lies. They lost to the Sars, and little of it had to do with hurling trainings, management or lads ont he beer. its getting tedious now with the amount of posts you have put up about them and Ballyfad.

this is a thread about fethard chances of winning senior football this year james, no need for petty , snide comments. what isnt true? i stand over everything ive stated and its not as if its a big secret. id say your in the minority of one if you dont know about the drinking session before sars game. cop onto yourself and dont be so prescious
