Gaelic Park Lease.

(Oldest Posts First)

Had a conversation with a group of GAA members today at coffee. The subject of the GAA lease with Manhattan college came up and their feeling was that the GAA's involvement in Gaelic Park is slowly being phased out and replaced by soccer programs. Also mentioned that NYU is going to bid for the lease when bidding opens. This new development surprised me as I thought our partnership with Manhattan was cordial. It seems new people are now in charge of the Athletic Dept. and are now familiar with the workings of the GAA. This could be a sticky situation for the GAA as the are prepared to invest a huge sum in the new building.
Black cards were also discussed and the jury is out on this one.

Black card is and will be a sticky one. Manhattan college are in control when it comes to our Gaelic Park. They also share with other colleges and GAA are last to be accommodated. How much did GAA put into field and for what security. Building bar/restaurant makes sense only if we have field.

End of 2015. So when does MTA accept applicants. I suppose the NY GAA will sit back and let it go and then complain about college for another 10 years.

By all accounts most of the games on Sunday Apr 20 were a farce. Kerry which has a senior and junior team were unable to field a team. The Board agrees to schedules which includes a league which most clubs have no intention of honouring. The sixty day sanction rule and the draft should both be done away with. Start the championships the Monday after the Connacht game (if there is one after this year) and play underage games in the Park in April.

Last Sunday was not a good day for the GAA.Maybe bad scheduling but major lack of interest by players and management. Kerry a NO SHOW, not good for them long term. Only half decent game was sligo and barnabas.

what you lads are forgetting is all new york panelists were barred from playing in the league matches, kerry woould have 10 missing, cavan 7 missing, monaghan missing 4 and donegal 2. armagh players were given the go ahead as it was champo and needed to play in new york prior to mayo game. barnabas will be a serious contender in inters this year

Thanks Sligolifer because that explains the situation last Sunday. I'm sure next week will be much the same.

Curious to know which ten Kerry players are on the NY panel. None of their junior players are on the panel. They were permitted to play senior and junior in the league. Management lost control of the situation and afraid to enforce penalties for no shows.

They'll probably complain. NYGAA is lucky Manhattan is a small college and its main sport is basketball. If MC had big soccer and lacrosse programs or an American football team there would be a lot less dates for GAA.

Where would the GAA go if the Lease is not renewed?

Dont think we need lease. Heard games a disaster again in park yesterday. Thinks our games should start at beginning of June and wrap up by 1 st week in September. Give the park to minor and ladies board every Sunday til June. Let them put on their best potential games on Sundays from 10 am til 6.30. Let's bring a bit if life back to GP.

Also another article relating a purchase of the randall island complex in new york, which is said to cost 20 million dollars, quite a lot of money, will NYGAA be able to finance all this?
