If ever there was a need for a miracle v Meath - that draw confirms it.

Would be most likely Armagh ( but they will give Donegal plenty to think about & will only be 2-3 points between them).

Nightmare of nightmares would be an away trip to Donegal I.M.O

Armagh are better than 2 years ago when they beat us by 25 points and while they might beat Donegal, I'd still consider Donegal the better side. Meath will beat us easily and when they do the qualifiers could prove extremely embarrassing.

Lads and Wicklowman in particular why dont you try show your current County players a bit of respect and stop banging about hidings here and hidings there. These lads have dedicated 5 Days a week dedication to the cause for the last 6 months and you show them a complete lack of respect. Yes while we can all agree that this current Wicklow team may not be the strongest team we have had for various different reasons, why not just show them some support and best wishes before the game. Heading to play in Navan is daunting enough without the whole County already having them defeated by a large margin. Give them a break and some support for God sake

Well said. Forget about the qualifiers yet. Might not be even involved in R1. Concentrate on the big match this weekend in Navan. With their backs to the wall they could turn in a performance and who knows.

Well said Whocares God knows we have enough problems in our county with most of the biggest ones being discussed on here regularly. However a major part of our problem is the prevalent sense of pessimism and the inferiority complex that we have as county. That is as damaging going forward as any lack of coaching structures etc as it seeps into the mindset of our young players. Yes, we will be up against it on Sunday but we need to have some pride & respect in ourselves & support the lads who are putting themselves forward to represent Wicklow. And if at the end of the day we don't get the result we want then I'll also be supporting them in either Armagh or in Ballybofey.

saw that Meath are missing 5 'starters', Reilly will be a big loss to them anyway. You never know what Meath team will show up these days and if we can start the game well I think we'll be able to match them for long periods of the game, we're going to need to be 100% clinical with our shot selction and decision making in the forwards. The one thing I've been thinking about is that a lot of the lads who've been involved for the last 5 years won't fear Meath with the close games we've given them in Aughrim and that will be a big help mentally going into the game.

Not being disrespectful but even if we were to lose 15 of our starting team we would probably still beat the worst team in the country.

Whocares, I guess I'm one of the ones who you're referring to. I do give my support and will be in Meath and Armagh/Donegal giving the lads support. It's a message board and I don't think any post on here will have any effect on the players. I'm not going around saying to the players that they're going to get hammered. I think it's a realistic view to suspect we will be beaten easily by Meath and subsequently hammered by either of the teams in the qualifiers and saying so in a post on a message board doesn't mean I will support the players any less. It's a place to air our views on the goings on in Wicklow and I think anyone who isn't deluded would agree that we look like having two games and then being out of the championship. That's not necessarily pessimism. It's just realism. And saying so on the internet isn't contributing to any problems ongoing in the county.

As Anon said I am being realistic... I love my county but it's hard not be a little fatalistic about the next 2 encounters. We finished joint bottom of Division 4 of the league with just 3 points... Now we are away to Meath. It doesn't look good, does it?? Is it true we won't have Seanie and Staff??

With meath at full strength being no world beaters and additionally a long injury list I can see this being closer than people expect.

Meath are heavy favourites with everyone and this meath team are not like Dublin where hype doesn't affect them in the early rounds.

Wicklow should set up and aim for 2 first half goals to try and ambush meath. Personally I'd love that. Would love a close match but with use coming out the winner!

See you all on Sunday.

Wicklowman, don't know why you are bringing up Seanie and staff as they were missing all year. True they had poor league campaign but next sunday will be a different matter. Remember in Micko's era they went into the championship campaign on the back of a poor league run and we all know what happened come championship time.

A good few decent players missing from the Meath starting line but as we have all seen before miracles do happen and some of these may start. From what i hear it looks like Wicklow have been putting effort into a defensive system. Meath kicked a load of wides against Cavan in the last round of the league with pressure on them and thats what Wicklow need to do.

The only trouble with the above is that Wicklow will need to convert all their chances to stay in the mix and cannot affort to be wasteful. Wicklow may have some decent options on the bench with Stafford and Power but they may have to bring them in earlier than was planned.

Good man Ponger, Meath did kick alot of wides v Cavan in Navan, but they still won the game did they not?

Meath have a relatively poor forward unit out on Sunday to be fair, but I wouldnt bet too much on that 15 named to start lining out.
Wicklow and no disrespect to all you lads who give their heart and soul to it are in for a trimming which as per Dub v Longford does neither Meath or Wicklow any favours.

Best of luck to all involved on Sunday & if Wicklow can stay in the hunt for 40 mins who knows what can happen - though unlikely to happen.

Looks like and experimental enough Meath team , but unfortunately hard to predict anything other than a comfortable Meath win especially with the advantage of the home draw.

Advantage for Johnnie Magee & team is there is zero expectation & zero pressure. Mick O'Dowd and team will be expected to deliver a big win - Hardly a Meath man or woman not already talking about a semi final versus Westmeath.

Meath are missing 7 or 8 starters to be honest. As good as chance as any for Wicklow to cause a surprise..

squareball

Flanagan,Rooney,Harnan.

Two of those guys are midfielders, both very good talents, but going forward I would like to see one of them partnered with Gillespie.
