Transfers

(Oldest Posts First)

What's the deal with the transfer merry go round with the Wexford town based clubs? There seems to be no concept of your club.

Yes gaafan, its about time someone spoke up about this. Its noting short if disgracefull what town clubs are geting away with, especially sarsfields. Just look at their panel for the adamstown game last Friday, how many of those players played, lets say u.12 for the club?? Or how many live in the parish, or where is the parish?? Does anyone even know where the boundaries are for town clubs?
Rural clubs have to jump through hoops to proove a player is living in the parish (granted horsewood seem to have their own rule for this, but they are exception rather than the rule, when it comes to rural clubs).
Its about time a proper debate was opened up about this, town clubs, especially the larger ones seem to be able do as they please, just look at the list of transfers printed in the local papers at the start of the year, sarsfields, sarsfields, sarsfields!! Although i couldnt be sure, ST Josephs appeared to be the main victims!

Happens in every town club, a lot more loyalty shown to country clubs.

St Josephs victims...where did they get all their players when they reformed a couple of years ago?

just about every transfer in wexford town involves the josephs. a few good players are joining them this year but could somebody please explain to me what the attraction with them is. Is it the prospect of an easy county medal at a lower level or what. i mean they dont have a pitch , a clubhouse or even an underage setup. it baffles me

good question, i know they won a couple of junior titles but the level of violence at their games is unreal. no disipline in that club whatsoever. as for transfers cant get my head around town mentality at all, one example philly cullen. plays in senior final for sars in 04, leaves sars , joins josephs, wins 2 junior titles with them and then rejoins sars. great clubman

have to agree somewhat on the comment re the 'lack of discipline' with St Josephs. I wouldn't come accross them very often but I have happened to be at two of their championship games in the past 18months both of which had a few rows at them. One particular match in Kilmore against the Annes (B team) was particularly bad. they had a couple of players sent off and i'm sure if what actually happened appeared in the referees report the individual in question should have gotten a year long ban!

its not over the top stummsriver, was at game where player after he had been sent off, ran at and kicked injured player on the ground . never seen anything like it. a lot of clubs wont play them in challenge matches anymore. always ends in trouble. youve obviousley not seen them play

Not a whole lot to shout about this year, mainly cos all the townies couldn't jump around and do the usual! No transfers of note really........ As we were with OTB favourites to retain the crown in the hurling, with Ferns the likely main challengers. The football is far more open, not sure what the Martins will do in regards to hurling/football, Annes would be my favourites to win it, but there is probably 10 teams with a realistic chance of winning it, besides Starlights and Fintams anyone can beat anyone on a given day
