Awards: Best Camogie Player Meath

2011 was another successful year for Meath camogie. John Davis' charges took the Division 3 league title at Kildare's expense and also defeated the Lilly Whites in the Leinster championship final. On the club front Kilmessan were senior champions again while Donaghmore Ashbourne took intermediate honours. We take a look at what we think are the top five contenders for this award.
Aine Keogh - A prominent player with Dunboyne club, Aine plays a pivotal role for both her club and County, Aine a native of Kildalkey, one of the quiet players on the field, who's fielding abilities and her sheer determination to succeed has helped bring her team to the level they have achieved in 2011, winning the National League Division 3 final was a high light and also Aine played a vital role in the championship decider against Roscommon to put Meath into a semi-final place against Down. Aine rounded off her achievements when she dually received a National Soaring Star Award in 2011.
Kristina Troy - A Blackhall Gaels club girl, Kristina has had a great year on the Camogie Fields in 2011, a player you can rely on to give everything she has got, she plays a central role, her ability to move the ball around the field while also noticing up numerous scores during the year. Kristina had a number of high profile performance in 2011 with the Meath Junior team, most notable was her semi-final performance in the All Ireland minor semi-final which helped her team reach the All Ireland Final against Armagh. Kristina always gives inspiration to her fellow players and she has the ability to change the outcome of a game at anytime.
Jane Dolan - A Blackhall Gaels player, Jane has been one of Meath's best Camogie players in the past number of years, Jane's speed is her number one advantage, if she is not breaking down a defence at speed she is making space to deliver quality ball to her fellow players. Jane's scoring ability is top class a forward that always has to be watched. Jane gave some great performances during 2011 and thus helped her receive a National Soaring Star Award for her playing and scoring abilities in 2011.
Katie Mullen - Killyon Club player, Katie plays a central field position for her club while taking on the role of full forward for the County, Katie has an engine that just keeps on going she has knocked in some vital goals to bring the county team back into contention on a few occasions during 2011. She helped to bring her club to Semi-Final stage of the Senior Championship. Her attitude of never stop going is a trade mark that any younger player can take inspiration from.
Aoife Thompson - Dunboyne club player, Aoife is one of Meath's most consistent players, a player who stands very tall in the back line when things are getting tough. Aoife never fails to clear her lines, when you think things may not be going your way. She has taken Meath out of a number of scary situations during the past year with her ability to catch and deliver the ball out of defence is an art to watch. A player with power and strength in abundance she never fails to deliver for both her club and County.
Aileen Donnelly from Kilmessan is another player who may have been in contention, although Aileen just returned to the Camogie Scene midway into the Championship after having a baby . Aileen scored a total of 10 points in the Senior Championship Final which helped her team regain the Senior Championship title.
