Awards: Best display in a ladies football final

December 15, 2011

Kellie Allen heads for the Clann Na nGael goals during the Meath Ladies IFC Final at Carlanstown.
There are three main contenders for this: Fiona Mahon, Vivienne McCormack and Kellie Allen.

Seneschalstown regained their Meath Ladies SFC crown with a convincing 1-20 to 2-5 win over first time finalists Na Fianna. Player of the Match that evening in Ashbourne was Fiona Mahon. The county player covered every blade of grass for the Seneschalstown cause and chipped in with a massive ten points.

The other two main contenders for the award played in the Intermediate decider. A replay was needed to separate Oldcastle and Clann Na nGael. In the drawn encounter the Athboy girls clawed back a ten point Oldcastle lead with only seven minute remaining to bring the game to a replay. Vivienne McCormack was simply outstanding for Clann Na nGael that evening. The county player ran the show from start to finish and contributed 2-3 to the Clann Na nGael score.

In the replay the North Meath girls made no mistake and easily accounted for Clann Na nGael 8-17 to 3-8. If McCormack was outstanding for Athboy in the drawn match Kellie Allen was simply untouchable in the replay. The multi talented Kellie scored a total of 5-3 to ensure the title went to John McEnroe's charges. Allen was presented with the player of the match, no surprise, after the game by Geraldine Sheridan. Kellie was also a member of the Meath ladies senior squad this year.

It is a tough one to call but our award goes to Oldcastle's Kellie Allen.

Tomorrow we are picking the best togged out team at adult level.
