Awards: Best Club Grounds

Donaghmore Ashbourne's impressive facilities
The contenders are Trim, Donaghmore Ashbourne, Summerhill, Cortown, Kilmainhamwood and Millbrook (Oldcastle).
Over the past ten years clubhouses and pitches have improved immensely. Four to six dressing rooms, state of the art showers, referees room and Prunty pitches are the norm for most clubs. Our team have travelled the length and breadth of the county to cover games and have chosen six venues for this award.
Kilmainhamwood opening their new facilities in early May with a Meath versus Longford challenge. The new facilities are second to none, the pitch, one of the biggest in the county, is always in great condition. If one was looking for a club grounds to accomadate a huge crowd then 'The Wood' is the place to go. The enormous slopped grass banks is the ideal place to watch a game on a summer's day.
Trim have one of the best club houses and pitches in the country. The dressing rooms are that big you could play a game in them. The game can be watched from the comforts of the balcony. When all is done a pint or a nice cup of tea can be had in the bar. Throw in a superb function room a fabulous car park and you get a picture on how great a venture this is. The main pitch will soon become "the home of Meath hurling" in the very near future.
What can be said about Donaghmore Ashbourne's facilities that has not been already said. In the worst of weather the main pitch is always in pristine condition. The back pitches are as good as most club grounds. Flood light games are as common as matches during the day. They are the only club to offer a very comfortable plastic seating area in front of the club house. On a wet day one can view the pitch from the comfort of the bar. The club also have a function room and a club merchandise shop. Teams are announced as they come out onto the pitch and the PR system is used to full effect.
Summerhill opened their new look grounds last year. The club house and dressing rooms are second to none. The pitch always produces great games of football. Dugouts are positioned on both sides of the field. One can watch the game in comfort standing on a concrete path with only a state of the art low metal fence in front of you.
Cortown have improved their playing facilities beyond recognition in the past few years. The pitch has been drained, flood light games are a norm and like Summerhill the club have erected a low metal fence and a concrete path right around the pitch.
Millbrook in North Meath has become the home of Oldcastle GFC once more. The superb facilities were opened in 2010. The home of the Gerry Reilly Tournament has a very scenic setting and comfortable surrounds which makes it one of the top venues for supporters. The covered standing area is ideal for those wet day.
Our award goes to Donaghmore/Ashbourne.
