(Oldest Posts First)

Apparently there's a communication out that Club Minor is now at U17, anyone care to confirmed or comment if this is correct.

So U19 is going to be the new Minor and U17 is a stepping stone, gives young players a way to transition to adult football and retaining them is always a good idea.

Juvenile boards only take control of competitions up to 16 years of age, although it is u17 it's still an adult competition, the old minor competition at u18 was always run by your senior board. The difficulty now is the crossover with your u16 playing minor, but this problem was always there.

Where does it leave a 17 year old as regards playing under 19 or under 20 with the club?as far as I know a lot would play 2 and 3 years above the 17 grade..there is talk that an under 19 and 20 competition being organized in limerick..don't know where they'll be fitted in cos most at 19 years of age will play junior or senior with their clubs..I don't agree with changes made to the grades as the old minor and 21 were great comps..did I see cork are talking of running even age comps to just for the one year..it's going to be very hard with this bloody virus still around..sorry for coming on ye,re forum..

Welcome aboard, there's legitimate reasons for introducing an U19 grade, simply put the step up from U17 or U18 to adult games is too big an ask for most players. U20/21 at Club level has been reduced to a nuisance competition so you get massive player loss because they can't break onto the Clubs first team and they're asked to hang around for a handful of U20/21 that get fixed at the beginning or usually end of a season. Give them a meaningful competition and have a max 3 year down age rule (for all age grades) so more players on the age get meaningful game time.

Would have to agree with you on this. Scheduling U19 games in through adult games will be problematic particularly for smaller clubs where as you said 18/19 year olds are playing for their senior and junior teams.
