Kavanagh for the backroom team??

(Oldest Posts First)

With Gary McDaid now left the Donegal management setup would it be in Rory Gallagher's interests to try and get Rory Kavangh into the backroom setup??
I know he has a few years left with Eunans yet but he'd be a valuable addition!!!

Get him back in the squad and for me starting alongside big Neil. Has far too much to offer to be retired. Still one of the best all round midfielders in the country.

No that would be a mistake for Donegal football.

Look I believe the replacement players are there, but in many cases struggled to break into the team in 2015. Most managers tend to go for All Ireland winners and Ulster title winners ahead of youth, however failure to replace key men and bleed replacements early enough can lead to a "Tyrone" Situation like between 2009 and 2014, where the process ends up taking far longer due to keeping big names on well past their sell by date.

If they are kept on, it must be recognised that they cannot bring 70+mins of Intensity and should be given reduced roles in the form of becoming bench players who only ever come on for the final 20 mins.

Donegal have lost their Intensity, and also their physicality. That 2011/2012 and even 2013 team were tough cookies, and were not so easily pushed around. I have noted in 2014 and 2015 that physicality has faded, which is understandable losing the likes of Ryan Bradley, Kevin Cassidy and Rory Gallagher.
