Agree with Gaa Fan. One side games would be detrimental to the GAA. Tyrone, Rangers, Leitrim and Mayo would be no match for senior teams. Cork are now in Junior A and hopefully they wont behave like a senior team there. Cavan are not likely to win their appeal since they pleaded the same case last year and were successful in intermediate. They should be made go senior or take a break. So its 4 teams in senior this year and if Kerry win intermediate then senior is finished.

I really don't understand how Cork can drop from senior to Junior A just like that... in the last few years we have seen Leitrim and Armagh having to take a year out when wanting to drop to junior... surely Cork would have to do this too? very unfair on junior clubs

Agree with you, this is happening every year now where teams are dropping in divisions instead of looking to win and progress to Senior. Says a lot about the state of the Senior division, that county teams are dropping down to Junior. If that is true about Cork, that would mean 4 county teams (even though Monaghan have a Senior team so a 2nd team at lower division is understandable) are playing Junior A football. Don't really know what the answer to this is at the moment, to much time, effort beaten out every year by money.

lads when is football season kicking off in Gaelic park? there'll have to be a few games played before sligo game right? billythekid69 (USA) - Posts: 35 - 21/03/2017 18:08:58 1969621 Link 0 |
Yeah Billy, a round of championship matches will have to be played by the May 7th match between NY and Sligo to get the players qualified. There will be knockout cup going on soon into April for the home based players, before championship starts.

if they haven't nailed down what teams will be in what divisions yet, I cant see anything kicking off soon... they usually have league fixtures out by now...

True NYCcavanman, the fixture list usually for knockout is thrown together, has been for the last few years. The NYGAA is more concerned with getting the senior team fixtures sorted to qualify the boys for the NY v Sligo match....same story every year. Like you said though, they better have the divisions sorted soon in order to get anything started. Last year, a couple of the divisions only played 1 match then semi final/final for knockout just to get it out of the way...it appears to be more a nuisance to the them then something they want do keep going. You know yourself, there is no respect for the home based players anymore.

Will there possibly be players on the New York squad who played no football yet in the City ? If so this is a slap in the face to the resident players and particularly the American born players. Of the four teams in the junior semis two were American in 2016, and one American team in the junior final. Gaa Fan (USA) - Posts: 549 - 22/03/2017 15:24:06 1970015 Link 0 |
Ive heard grumblings of this GAA Fan, but don't see how this is possible. In order to play in this match, you would have had to play here in last year's championship…as per the rules, but then again we know they often get overlooked. Agree with all the American born and raised players that are eligible for the team, only 2 or 3 get picked, and only 1 if lucky will see any playing time. Ah its always the case where we are left guessing at what is going on behind the scenes, that is why a lot of people are fed up with GAA here, to many things going on behind the scenes. After the near upset last year, no team from Ireland will take NY lightly, so beating Sligo will be a huge ask….the few boys i know that are on the panel said training is going very well and that boys are dedicated, so all we can do is get behind ours boys.

Checked on new players and am told that they do not have played in New York last year. They cannot have played a championship game in an other county board this year. They just transfer into NY and play one NY championship game before the Connacht game to be eligible.

Croke park has once again put a nail in NY Gaa by overruling our recently passed bye laws. Crossgaa (Mayo) - Posts: 548 - 24/03/2017 10:35:43 1970638 Link 0 |

Report from New York is that there is going to be three senior teams and one intermediate team in the senior section this year. Two rounds with all four making the play-offs. A very sad day for NY. Gone the way of Philly and Chicago. Gaa Fan (USA) - Posts: 549 - 24/03/2017 16:59:35 1970758 Link 0 |
Agree. Delegates rolled over again. DNGAA (USA) - Posts: 4 - 24/03/2017 17:10:46 1970764 Link 0 |
Wow, you guys serious??? The 2 Senior teams and about 3 Inter clubs are the only ones to blame. Delegates do not vote against any motion that is calling for change, the delegates are to scared of falling out of favor with the Board. Serious loss for all the clubs dedicated to keeping this game going here. Its hard enough trying to keep native born kids involved after u16, with going to college and other sports, but the ones wanting to continue get pushed to the side for these $$$$ players. Again the Senior Board have let down the Minor Board….so who are the 3 teams in Senior: Kerry, Donegal and Monaghan???? And what Inter team is going to compete in Senior, Cavan? Westmeath? Longford? Only Cavan should have been made go up with winning Inter last year. Cut out sanctions and cut inter counties down to 2 each. For the life of me, i honestly think people are voting and making decisions to kill the GAA in NY totally. NarrowBack914 (USA) - Posts: 181 - 24/03/2017 18:53:04 1970794 Link 0 |

No way???? I didn't hear anything about the field at Gaelic Park getting ripped up…..no games for May, June and possibly July is a COMPLETE joke! Thats the whole season. Paddy's Field is way to small to have competitive Senior Board matches there. I know, i grew up playing there all underage, no way could you expect a good match of Junior, Inter or Senior. And don't get me going on Rockland, how are you going to ask boys from Queens, Brooklyn, the Island to go up for a 630 match during the week. Absolute nonsense. Hope these are all just rumors and bar talk.
