I agree with you there on Touhy, cant see why he was dropped.

The team i would go with for the next day is.
1.Touhy as has been said, still our best keeper. Hard to see this change happening at this stage though.
2.Browne
3.Cleary
4.Hayes
5.O'Halloran would like to have ryan here but short on options in the half forward line
6.O'Connor
7.Fitzgerald could do with his size back in the half backline
8.McInerney
9.Malone
10.McCarthy Real potential as a wing forward long term
11.Kelly just putting him here as he was around this area most often the last day
12.Ryan as i said would prefer him at 5 but short on options here
13.Taylor not convinced by him in the corner but deserves to start again after his goal. Can maybe rotate with kelly
14.Shanagher we need the physical presence inside
15.O'Donnell needs to stay closer to goal and work with/ off shanagher

The 3rd quarter decided this game. Limerick played it like a team who wanted to win. I felt with Clare it was more hope than anything else.
Limerick are a fine side and will be hard stop. Can Clare learn enough to get some wins under their belt?

Replying To clooney:  "All these players you mention are all very good players and I really dont think that we have better players available Jamie Shanaghan would be one but he for whatever reason wasen't part of last years either.I was surprises last Sunday that David McInerney was not moves to wing back midfield was largely bypasses C Lynch dident figure much either C Malone was best player there.

There is no point in mentioning the 3 /4 great players missing that would really make a difference
In an ideal world D Mac D Ryan & A McCarthy would form half back line but can we afford all of them there I liked what B Lohan was doing early in early having gritty backs like Liam Corry and POC @ CB and Fitz @ CF I know opposition was not as good .

Jack Browne & Hayes are prone to crazy frees at times .

I dident see any reason for replacing Touhy he is way our best goalie IMO

I watched game again last night everything Limerick struck went over bar no pressure on lots of the shots.

There was no with in our Forward line where has the "spread the forward wide & keep the backs tight" message gone

Keep the Faith"
I didn't mention any players that were missing. I know there all very good players and they all have there qualities but there not performing and haven't been for a while. This is the whole point of a 35 man squad. Knowing that you'll get whipped off after 20 minutes or knowing that you'll be dropped can only be a good thing. It would make training more intense as well.

I really hope we see 4 or 5 changes for the next day.

Going 5 up straight after half time and Kelly missing 2 fress straight after half time didn't help either. I don't think it was more hope, Limerick are just a better team. Clare needed15 players to play at there best but unfortunately most didn't show up and 4 or 5 were anonymous. I hope Lohan has learnt from this and I would like to get Dublin or Wexford next, getting Laois will tell you nothing. No disrespect to Laois.

Yeah I know you diden't mention missing players some off our players seem to not have the appetite for it anymore in fairness this management did give fringe players an opportunity in the league whether they could live with the big boys i don't know.

Strenght & height are very important in hurling nowadays

So while Laois wont be any sort of pushover, we got the draw we would have liked. Laois are down 7 0r 8 players from the team who beat dublin last year. But with eddie brennan over them they will definitely come with something and are a potential banana skin. but it is a better draw than getting dublin or wexford at the moment.
Brian lohan should have learned a lot from our loss to limerick. Yesterday's game between limierick and tipp should give clare hope because it showed we were beaten by a top class limerick team. they beat us by 10 points and beat the reigning all ireland champions by 9. the laois game, without underestimating them gives us a good chance to get a win on the board and progress.
dont want to be looking too far forward but a meeting with davy and his crew would be appetizing. in the next round if we are lucky enough to get there.

To be honest Laois should be a push over. They were pushed over by Dublin and they are down a load of players from last year. It would be great if Clare use this lucky break to garner abit of momentum. Theyd give Wexford a good rattle ,maybe Cork or Tipperary too. None of those 3 are unbeatable. Id say if Tipperary met Limerick again they'd still lose and thats just the way it is. Clare have nothing to fear except themselves. They have to grow up ..and take responsibility. Now dont get me wrong we don't have the squad to win an All Ireland but Clare can certainly knock an All Ireland contender out on a good day . Id like big physical players to start..Shanagher,Cunningham definitely to start.

Yeah I Agree with you in all that there seems to be a view that Diarmuid Ryan should be moved to half back he certainly has shown a lot of dash there with Cratloe.

I am surprised also that Colin Guilfoyle hasen't got much game time Big Strong Running & good in Air are essential now.

If Fitzgerald is played in forwards hope its at c forward.

In truth they should win well no disrespect to Laois but they are missing lots of players

Touhy

Hayes
Cleary
Browne

Ryan
POC ( Needs to play well or he is gone)
Aidan Mac - harsh on O Halloran I know.

Taylor - think worth a go in his best position
David Mac (Massive game needed)

Shanagher ( need a strong ball winner )
SOD - needs to be in game more
Malone

Kelly - go where he wants
Cunningham
Reidy - like to see him back in there, good pace and skillful.

Very interesting team selection for tomorrow. Firstly jack browne apparently has a knock, so he is not being risked rather than dropped. Mad to think its paul flanagan's first championship start. He's been around the senior panel for 7 or 8 years now, so fair play to him well deserved.
Pat o'connor being left out is interesting, one can only assume he has been dropped for his limerick performance. Probably was lucky to keep his place last year anyway. Aidan mccarthy getting his first championship start at centre back is probably the big story. A class hurler, id probably have preferred him in the half forward line. But if he can be a long term answer at 6 then im all for it!
No surprise our wing forwards have been dropped, personally i think those 2 lads are better suited to being wing backs rather than forwards. Guilfoyle and shanagher, similar in that they are 2 big men deserve their chance. Its a huge opportunity for both. Particularly shanagher who has been in and around the team for a few years without ever nailing down a position. So now is his chance. Needs to be getting 1-2 or 1-3 on the board to show his worth. And you never know maybe he will have learned to strike the ball on his weak side. He has all the potential to be one of the top forwards in the game if he can get the right side working. Although shane downing did make a decent bit of a career out of only having one side so you never know!

Paul Flanagan very consistent defender for Club tidy hurler hope he does well what has happened to Liam Corry though was consistent in the league. Small enough halfback line thought, O Halloran needs to be much tighter marke,r I suppose none of those left off can fell hard done by as they were poor last day, out Cunningham will have to get serious game time cant see him sticking around on bench too long David Reidy lucky to survive Guilfoyle & Malone on half forward line should should a bit of cut.

Got the win, but not great. We started slowly, then got on top. Mcinerney's red card almost cost us. We conceded 3 poor goals, first one was poor defending all around. Second cleary should have went and closed down the forward running in. And for the third, keeper should have saved it. Seadna morey played centre back and we were very open down the middle. Cathal malone was our best player, would have lost without him. Shanagher had a mixed first half but was much better in the second. One point in particular on the left sideline was class

Clare very lucky yesterday. I didn't see the David Mc incident. Can anyone inform me?

Clare very disappointing and appeared to have no plan or shape. Very poor from Brian Logan. I get the feeling he could have a short stint unless there's a major improvement next week. Maybe a date with Davy next week would shake him up??

I heard it was a dig with the butt of the hurl, was meant to of been soft enough.

Yes it's been very disappointing all round, he has no idea what our best team is. Tactics and coaching are shocking aswel. He should settle on a 1 - 9 and stick with it from now and right through the league. But in saying all that, nobody bar Limerick has looked good and I'd like to see Lohan given a proper chance in a normal season with a full panel to pick from.

I think if you look at Clare overall since we arrived on the scene in 2013 we were being suggested as the new Kilkenny but it never happened whether it was down to some mid management or simply not been good enough to win another title i am not certain.

Last year we beat a poor Waterford lost by 13 to Tipp 18 to Limerick some sort of redemption V Cork in Ennis

This year we lost the Galvins Podge Duggan & Conlon too many bt far for a small Hurling County.
I thought early in year that we were solid enough albeit were playing poorer teams.

We were fairly dire V Laois especially after McInerney got send off it was soft but he should be more cuter at this stage of career the goals conceded were poor lack of concentration not enough work rate a small half back line open down the middle.

E Quilligan was presumably brought in for his puck outs but he is only average at that no where near as good a stop shot stopper as Touhy. We are hugely unsettled as a team Paul Flanagan tidy hurler but rounded and burned for pace a couple of times. We need to shore up Half Back line Aidan McCarthy only 20 I know but IMO overrated.

Wexford might bring the best out of them

Touhy

Hayes
Cleary
Browne

D Fitzgerald
Diarmuid Ryan
Seanha Morey

Mcinerney { If reprieved}
Taylor

Malone
Kelly
Shane O D

Cunningham
Shanagher
M Rodgers

Wexford it is. Both teams will be happy to avoid Tipp and Cork. Wexford should have too much due to Clare's missing list.

I think Clare fans will need to be patient. Lohan is essentially carrying out a complete rebuild. A lot fo the lads getting games now are the same players most Clare people have been saying deserve a go so at least they getting the game time.

2021 when he as Conlan, Galvin and hopefully Duggan back is when we can judge this mgmt team properly.

I agree lots of lads got a shot at game time and we haven't exactly been overflowing with talent coming through the ranks haven't the money that Limerick had to invest due to Jp.

We are always able to have a good cut off Wexford though Wexford like a bit of chaos if we are disciplined dont concede too many stupid frees might rattle them they were v poor too V Galway.

Tony Kelly probably best player in championship at moment you half expect him to take the puckouts as well as scoring somebody mentioned how well Cathal Malone has improved and he has was good last year too will never be a TJ Reid but great attitude and very accurate you wonder how more players cant reach the bar like he has.

Its up to the lads now to give it a real lash the rewards are obvious probably a joust with KK.

Well lads.

Probably the draw both of us wanted.

Our record in the championship against munster opposition is the only thing better under Liam Dunne than with Davy.

That being said I expect a big response from us after how bad we were v Galway.

Should be a cracking contest.

We have 2 potentially top class young players with diarmuid ryan and aidan mccarthy. But it is so frustrating to see them both being played out of position. Ryan should be wing back and mccarthy should be wing forward. Replacing touhy with quilligan has also not gone well. The team i would go with for this weekend is.
1 Touhy
2 Browne
3 Cleary
4 Hayes
5 Ryan
6 O'Connor really not sure who our long term 6 should be. But i think our best bet this weekend is to bring Pat back in for his experience. Morey was lost here againt laois
7 Fitzgerald needs to be used here as it is his best position
8 McInerney im assuming his card will be overturned
9 J McCarthy crazy he has not gotten more gametime. He has all the hurling needed as well as the strength.
10 Malone
11 Kelly
12 A. McCarthy
13 O'Donnell
14 Shanagher
15 Taylor
I think stephen o'halloran and paul flanagan have done ok. But i think the players im have put in are better. Morey and reidy i think would be better used off the bench as they are not physically enough for the middle 8 positions in modern hurling. I always though morey might have been best used at midfield but he was never given a go there.
A huge factor this weekend is who we will use as the spare man as wexford will have their sweeper back. Im really unsure who it should be. I suppose it is a role which might suit seadna morey. So he could start possibly in place pat o'connor there with jack going to 6.
