An Ulster championship from round one!

(Oldest Posts First)

As Antrim are potentially the county likely to lose out in my idea I thought I'd post it here first!

What if from junior level to senior level we scrapped the current system, where by you win your own county championship to play in the Ulster semi finals, what if everyone could meet each other from the first round with proper grading of course.

For example your first round senior draw may look like this:

Lougheile V Keady

St Galls v Dungiven

Ballycastle v Ballycran

in intermediate

Gort Na Mona v Carrickmore

Carey v Na Magha

In junior

Cushundun v Burt

St Endas v Lisnaskea

and so on.

Would it serve to bring on those counties with the hope of big scalps such as St. Galls this year or would it hinder them further? Would it be still a foregone conclusion with Antrim dominating? I believe it would create much fairer, more competetive hurling on a wider scale.

grandagrokepoke what have we ever done to you??? calm down

I'm sure if a full listing of the proposed draw were to be given there would be more than 1 team from down in each section too.

it might work tho as always the county fixtures would dictate what happens and with football dominating ulster and hurling a poor second to it the fixtures prob wont get played till all the football is sorted.

well if your going to have two or more Antrim representatives in it then have two or more Down, Derry and Armagh representatives in it. Why not make it like the Ulster League except make it a proper ulster championship format. I don't need to dry my eyes long John just looking fairness so don't be so ignorant, my issue was the number of Antrim representatives compared to the rest. Spyboy Antrim have never done anything wrong to us, far from it just incase anyone else wants to jump on that bandwagon.

i think you have the wrong end of the stick mate with regards to the first post and the teams mentioned. i would say he has used them as an example as theres quite a few clubs he/she could have mentioned in that.

Precisely dunloyrealist, this fella from down is knitpicking, the chances are most clubs would try to avoid the senior leaving it prodominently antrim teams any way (the teams i have used are purely for example purposes), i dont think keady or carrickmore and possibly some of the strong derry clubs would have interest in going senior in the first year of such an idea, so to say two from armagh is from someone who clearly lacks knowledge over the bigger picture on the club scene.

The purposes of the championship would surely draw out promotion in weaker counties top clubs, so in hope that years down the line we could be representative of every county in Ulster in this sort of championship.

Get the chip off and start looking at the bigger picture, last time i looked Armagh where above down in the pecking order and they arent on here slabbering about not having teams in the example i used!

I know more than you think fella I was merely asking the Question why you automatically placed more Antrim teams in there, sorry I bothered.....and I wasn't slabbering and I don't have a chip on my shoulder either you ignoramus so catch yourself on, since you are clued in on the wider picture you would have realised that.

surely if you know more than i think you would have seen that it was an example and many good clubs are not involved, including the likes of portaferry?

Ignoramus - im not the one who read an example and thought it was the whole picture my friend, check out your mirror!

In theory North Side your idea is excellent, having an Ulster championship right from start especially in the Hurling. It would make for some very interesting games.
On another point brought up by several posts. Abuse shouted by fans of teams is a sad and sickening part of our games. Every club has their so called "Mouths and Slabbers." What gets the best out of a player? A positive praise or a expletive filled rant about what they are doing wrong!

Well shenboli i grew up with the rants and abusive style managers also the positive and it did me more emotional harm as a player, i now believe myself to be a positive coaching purely praising and advising, what do you feel about it?
