Ref Attacked. Time to clean up Wicklow football

(Oldest Posts First)

Pat Dunne Knocked to ground and kicked while umpiring - how can this happen? What kind of thug attacks somebody. Should be a lifetime ban for the culprit. If Wicklow dont start stamping this kind of behaviour out then the county board should be ran. It is time to act.

The Rathnew-Pats incident should be a fine for both clubs and a warning that the fine will increase when there is another incident involving either club and bans where possible. Time to clean up Wicklow GAA for once and for all.

Wonder shots I have to agree with you.The carry on at the start of the football and hurling finals was unsavoury to say the least, but there was no real malice involved, and no one was injured, both games were were played to there conclusion without any serious incidents, but a stiff fine for all clubs involved and a stern warning to their future conduct should suffice, what is alleged to have happened in junior game is a completely different matter and should be judged differently.

Of course it should, but then you couldn't get a cut at Rathnew!!
Life time ban is the way to go for this incident, how else will we get people to ref and umpire if they don't feel safe.
Cant be done without a detailed refs report tho so as usual we`ll have to wait and see. but I have my suspicion little or nothing will happen, as usual.

The reporting of this incident has been woefully inaccurate. Let's not forget a young Newtown player was badly injured in a assault. Hopefully the real culprit will be dealt with severely on Tuesday night. A massive call here for CCC, a really genuinely interesting one to see how it pans out.

I believe all 4 teams (hurling and football) got fined and some more than other..

Fines will solve absoutely nothing...

Rathnew and Carnew fined 1000 each
Bray and Pats fined 500 each.

Seemingly the video evedience of Rathnew deliberately running through the pats team parade is irrefutable.

I know all that rathnew lads will get all worked up about this but I'm sure both club committees are entitled to see the footage and will appeal it if they are sure that wasntbrhe case.

Your thread title is very mis-leading.He wasnt attacked in his capacity as a referee as he wasnt refereeing the game

Going by those lenient punishments Hollywood and Newtown should have little to worry about. To those advocating lifetime bans, I assume you also want that to apply to the non player who allegedly assaulted the young Newtown player.

I suspect the original posters suddenly lost their sense of indignation when they heard what really happened. Always check the facts first lads.

Where do the funds from the fines go? What do they go towards?

Those fines are a nonsense and will do nothing to discourage this kind of stuff in the future.

Did anyone hear what the outcome of the investigation into the junior B brawl was, everything seems to be very quite.

Is it true the Newtown keeper who was sent off was also sent off in the semi-final?
