Wexford Intermediates

(Oldest Posts First)

Well done and hard luck to the Wexford Intermediates. A great year reaching an All-Ireland.

Just a quick question. There were plenty of changes to the side from the last day, including several to the bench. A player who came on and scored in the last match was dropped from the whole squad in favour of a guy from a club of one of the selectors, a player who hadn't been named as being part of even the extended squad in the earlier games. Anyone have any ideas why or input from near the squad?

Yeah, well done to all involved.

Strange, if that's true, Ice. Presume the selectors know what they're doing, though. But it sounds a bit peculiar.

As an aside, what spread of clubs were represented on the panel?

Peter147 I didn't say he wasn't. But Lawlor from Cloughbawn was in that squad and is easily good enough for the squad too, from what I can gather had been in the squad all year and had done well with any game time he had up to the final.

wouldnt disagree with u at all ice, it should have been left with liam dunne and jj doyle over the intermediates. then the motion to have selector from each district came in.

Peter174 Interesting isn't it? I really think that intermediate team should be used as a springboard to produce players for the senior team. I was looking at some article which showed in the last two years Cork have brought through Mark Ellis, Seamus Harnedy and two others to their senior squad from their intermediate team. There weren't many of recent u-21's on our intermediate squad, which was a shame I think- for example I don't know why Barry Carton wasn't involved ahead of maybe Rebmond Barry etc who although brilliant players probably won't be progressing to the senior side.
