Paying For Outside Managhers

(Oldest Posts First)

The new President of the G.A.A. Is talking about stoping this, but I beg the answer how ,as individual s can bank roll whoever they like ,and are not breaking any rules . The G.A.A.themselves use whatever means to garnish money from selling Croke Park to whoever they like Soccer ,Rugby ,or concerts ,but Croke Park was built by amateurs for amateurs and not for foreign games .Practice what u preach (just-saying).

It's a slippery slope isn't it. The GAA sell the TV rights to the highest bidder and it's all about making as much money as possible so its hypocritical to tun around and tell managers they can't make a buck. I remember a JMcG article a couple of years back talking about this and he was saying that the only ones in Croke Park on a big day not getting paid were the players on the pitch, even the guys doing the turnstiles get something.

To be honest I think we are heading towards semi-professionalism in some form. With the introduction of the Super 8's I can see county players not playing at all for their clubs at all. Maybe that would be a good thing, allow the clubs to get on with their games. It seems kind of sad losing out to commercialism but there seems to be no stopping it.

The top brass at GAA HQ must think we're right gombeens altogether. Payments to managers has been going on for years and it's hardly going to stop now. I don't know how they think they could even attempt to police that!

Also, as the previous poster said the GAA top brass are mad for making a pound even if it means their rank and file have to miss out. e.g. Sky TV Deal, super 8's. The idea behind the super 8's is that there will be more competitive games at the height of summer. I won't be a hypocrite about it. I'm retired from playing and I know that by August I'll be glued to every game. But for the club player in any of those 8 counties it's a disaster.

In Donegal, club championship won't start til September this year. If we happen to make the super 8 what happens to club league football in August?
