Woeful Standard Of Football In Co. Final

(Oldest Posts First)

I'm sure Doonbeg won't mind but I thought the standard of football in today's county final was abysmal. Total negativity was the order of the day & the standard of kicking & passing was even short of juvenile level. Serious thought must be given to a total reappraisal of football coaching within the county if an improvement is to be achieved within the timeframe that current Co. Manager Michael McDermott wishes for in the match programme today.

Yeah it was pretty bad to be honest.
In fairness to Doonbeg, I thought that Liscannor played a lot more negatively with playing way too many men in defence.
Every time Liscannor broke out of defence they had only 2 men in the other half of the field to aim for and so ensured that they had to have a slow build up to attack. The opposite of course is that they had up to 12/13 men in defence when Doonbeg attacked so as to swamp the defence.
It was never going to be an open game.
The ref seemed to blow for everything and there was no fluidity to the game.

It was awful. Clare seniors will go no where with club's that play so negetively

Most games in clare football are negative and low scoring games. Most games teams average just 6-8 points a game.Teams employ blanket defence and cancel out each other, there is also a lack of quality forwards in the county.David Tubridy is the only decent forward Clare have.

Gael85, I have to agree 100%.
There were very few if any matches in this years senior championship where both teams both got more than 10 scores in 70 minutes.
There is a lack of quality forwards, but I think it's more to do with all teams playing with a negative mindset.

My apologies to Clare football as I'm just watching the Mayo football final & the castlebar v ballintubber game makes the Clare final look outstanding. Mayo football must be in an awful state to judge by the standard of this game. Small crowd too. No wonder.
