Pearses back to Antrim football?

(Oldest Posts First)

Heard a rumour recently that the Pearses club are coming back into All-County League football this year.

Does anyone know if this is true? They used to be a force back in the day, would they be able to compete again?

I know they have a very good underage set-up after nearly collapsing several years ago. Some great work by mentors. Also they have entered a senior team in S Antrim the past couple of seasons so it is very possible as they have a lot of good minors coming through. If hear anything more will post it

Hopefully if all the clubs in Belfast get behind them we'll be able to push the Belfast City Council to provide pitches for them and Ardoyne''''

i can gladly say it is true. Im a pearses man, playing for the seniors. We've been in S Antrim for 3/4 years now. The big plan was get the team up and running to bring through U16 from that time. They're now coming through to senior and with the fellas we already had, we'v got a great squad to work with. Its the clubs 60th Anniversary this year so great time to return to all county competition. Táimid ag dul ó neart go neart!

would i be right in saying they have a potentially bigger catchment area than Ardoyne and that their re-surgence could in the future maybe hurt St Endas and Ardoyne?
Overall though the competition would be good for all north Belfast Gaels, to be honest I was surprised there was not more football in the district. Surely Ligoneil could support a small team as could the Greencastle area and the upper Antrim Road!
There is loads and loads of sporting lads in the district but soccer has a firm hold, hopefully that is changing.

As Tomas said yes its true we are back in Div 6 this year. We had our first challenge match of the year today winning 7-13 to 0-01 against Mitchells.

We have had a great reception from clubs throughout the county since coming back to adult football and hopefully we can go on to do the club name proud in this our 60th anniversary.

In line with some of the previous comments, Pearses return to County football has been in the making for the last five or six years and a lot of people have put in an enormous amount of work. Hopefully the players involved can do the club justice, personally I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them challenge for promotion.
