Replying To TheHermit:  "Well they'll be up against it but the very best of luck to the Kingdom's hurlers this evening, esp to the Crotta boys the mighty Shane Nolan, the mercurial Barry Mahoney and the dependable Tomas and Donal.

An Riocht Abu!"
An Ríocht Abu is right the hermit, I'm not 1 that's much for the small ball but il give it a gawk, and iv the Kerry flag flying outside as well.

Kerry s marking very loose and Westmeath in total control around centre field. Still prob don't deserve to be that far behind though.

Westmeath were that bit stronger and more cohesive. Still, Kerry put in a heroic effort. The died with their boots on. Some fine stickmen in the Kingdom, incl. the two Boyles. Marking was that bit loose, but that can happen, especially on a deadly hot day. Westmeath were quite economical in their shooting, so the loose marking was really punished. Hopefully, Kerry keep at it. They're not that far away from capturing The McDonagh.

Yes Forever Westmeath were the better team and Kerry can have no complaints. They never gave up fair play to them.

Well it wasn't to be and a second defeat in the McDonagh final in 7 months is not what we would have hoped for.

In truth Westmeath were just a bit of a class ahead of us and that's the benefit of playing to the higher standard of Division 1 hurling during the first few weeks of the season.

While Kerry did brilliantly in the first half to keep it tight, the early goal was a killer and confidence drainer and for much of the game it was what Westmeath could use to keep us at arm's length.

When Westmeath upped the ante in the second half we just couldn't live with them and yet credit to Kerry to keep fighting and the old warrior Mickey Boyle struck a lovely goal. Unfortunately we didn't really threaten to raise green flag anytime else.

The six points was probably a fair reflection of the difference between both sides in standards. Hopefully Kerry can have a more settled campaign next summer and reach a third final in a row and hopefully it will be a case of it being the lucky one!
