Common sense should be the decider when footballer retires and accept they are no longer young. Improvements in physiotherapy and protein supplements have helped older footballers to play longer but there are drawbacks.

There are studies emerging suggesting that the known increase in injuries of older players are presenting many problems in later life for the footballer. The most scary is not necessarily the common physical injuries which in themselves cause problems as the player get ages but it is those injuries associated with the head and how they impact on the wellbeing of the footballer in the long term. Interesting too is the over use of sports protein intake is receiving more attention and there may be longer term impacts.
