Wicklow vs Meath 2015

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Does anyone know will any of the players who dropped off the panel be back for the game against Meath? If I was part of the team management, I would be trying to convince one or two to return so as to avoid a total embarrassment against Meath in Navan. We are at a very low ebb, the league was an absolute disaster, the last thing we need is to have to play Meath away in the championship especially now that Meath are just behind Dublin in the Leinster pecking order.

I think the opposite is happening wicklowsupport. As far as I can see he is now bringing players onto the panel that cant even get a starting place on their own club team !!!!

Pats under 21s joining panel.Meath must be shaking in their boots at that news.I wonder would we be lucky enough to draw New York in qualifiers, we might get a third game out of it,I stress might.

Sorry whocares I thought you meant older lads who weren't getting their game, I've no problems with him bringing in young players into the panel, I doubt they're there to fill anyone boots this year don't know why your moaning about it pistel

What do you exspect him to do? He was down 15 players at one stage due to retirements, work commitment's, lads traveling & lads injured. After this summer he is going to lose another few players
Power, staff, Byrne, Hyland. He is trying to find players to replace these lads so how else can he do it then bring in young lads from the U21 team.

Correct, I was not there. But to label it a good show is fooling yourselves. That's the kind of attitude that we have appeared to accept across all county teams in Wicklow GAA. It's not acceptable.

Decent enough performance for 50 odd minutes but when Laois went up a gear we had no response, which is indicitive of all Wicklow teams, underage and senior.Sean Moore was destroying us and nothing tried to curtail his influence, he scored 3-8,more than the whole Wicklow team scored altogether. It wasn't as if we weren't warned about him he scored 3-4 for Ballyfin in the Laois intermediate final. We might get 2 or 3 decent players out of this squad, that's if they all haven't emigrated in a few years

Lads what's after happening up in Wicklow over the last few years, I mean in 2012 yous gained promotion which was a big step and gave us a good game down in Carlow and might have caused more damage if Glynn hadn't of picked up a bad injury. 2013 didn't go great but yous were missing Glynn all season and again you's gave us a very good game up in Aughrim just maybe running out of steam, then that freak result against Armagh, in 2014 yous bounced back and very nearly got promotion, beat Offaly and bowed out of the championship by only 2 points.

So genuinely what's after happening this year? I don't know how good or bad things are in Wicklow but I wouldn't have yous finishing bottom of the counties in the NFL, makes me a little bit nervous for the championship because we're 1/16 favourites to beat Wicklow and that price isn't giving yous any credit at all.

1/16 is generous odds. i think ye will win by double figures, easily.
senior players that have been carrying the torch have dropped and no one good enough coming through.

Htaem, what went wrong? as a county we didn't look to the future over the last 10-12 years, we didn't put the proper structures in place at underage level, as a result, when players such as Glynn, Hyland, Earls, Furlong, Stafford and Hannon (great servants) etc started becoming unavailable through retirement or injury, the players coming in weren't near the same standard as what was becoming unavailable.

Equally, we didn't show enough ambition when it came to building on the Micko era, we failed to build on the foundations that he put in place and we didn't cater properly for interest that it generated in the young. We are in a bad place and it is going to take a long period of time before we can even think about competing against teams such as Meath or Kildare, never mind Dublin - I wouldn't think that we will put up much resistance against Meath in the first round as things in the county are at a low ebb but we hope for the best.

They were all good players wicklowsupport, Glynn in particular is an excellent player to watch but I suppose your county board will have to take a large portion of the blame if nothing significant was done to develop the next generation. As for our game next month, look I'm not going to lie to you, I am expecting Meath to win but also to be fair to Wicklow the last few championship games we've played were close and you's have nothing to lose given the low expectations, so we have to stay focused.

What do people think will be the starting 15 v Meath on the 14th June? Here is my guess assuming that Power and Hyland are fit enough. Its a real pity Stafford is still not right so we could play McGraynor inside.
1.Lambert
2.Hyland
3.Power
4.Murphy
5.Healy
6.Chester
7.Hayden
8.A McLoughlin
9.C McGraynor
10.Gaffney
11.McGrath
12.McWalter
13.Odlum
14.Cronin
15.McCrea
