Ah poor lad you're getting mixed up again, "sligojoe" here and I never mentioned Pat Spillane in a post, not ever.(ref; "connolly dub"). As I said a bit of time off might get the fog outta yer head.

Connolly put his hand on the linesman's shoulder. That was it. And poor owl Pat Spillane was traumatized at the "assault" he just witnessed god love him. The same Pat that played in Dublin kerry games in the 70s were both teams literally tried to take each others heads off!!

If you don't think Pat's antics on the Sunday game had a direct effect on how the gaa dealt with it then you're deluded. It was a witch-hunt after that which ultimately got him banned for the rest of the season. It's widely known that the whole saga surrounding that incident was ultimately the reason that led Connolly to step away from the inter county scene and go play ball in the states. He made a cameo type comeback for the final in 2019 but realistically that was last we properly seen of Connolly.
Such a shame for one of the most talented players to play the game.

I thought Diarmuid Connolly was an outstanding player with huge ability. He could become involved in the dark aside if provoked, but still an outstanding player. Pat Spillane loves himself, and likes to be heard regardless of whether he makes sense.

I think Connolly definitely was gone before his time was up but at the same time he garnered so much attention in the media (usually for the wrong stuff) that he just got a pain in his rear end with it all. I think he for sure brought a lot of it on himself but even when he did go out to try and play football he was targeted so heavily by opposition players that he struggled to even do that. I would highlight the Mayo games as case in point and Lee Keegan nearly strapping a saddle to his back for 70 mins each time. Of course you have to deal with that but not sure he got any protection from refs which again was also due to the fact that he was well capable of a misdemeanour or two himself such as the linesman incident mentioned above (storm in a teacup blow out of all proportion by Mr Spillane).

Great build up on R na G for any of you Gaeilgóirí out there, All Kerry of course via Saol O Dheas but really interesting stuff and gives a flavour of what it means that we Dubs just don't get any more as we become a city that could be anywhere really these days,

Keegan was wrongly back carded for fouling him in 2016 final.

Not sure if any of my County colleagues are feeling this way to. But this one feels like a lot of fun, compared to those of recent years. I say that with a six in a row in the back pocket and lived and breathed every single minute and every single game, the pressure of holding that record and achieving it year after year before climbing the summit of five and row and again breaking even that.

This feel different, after achieving the impossible and holding that pressure for so long, just going for the one feels like a bit of fun, light relief and not really any pressure at all.

Dont get me wrong, i want it am hungry for it and will go mental at the game willing us on, but the pressure is far less and for me not really there at all compared to the six in a row.

We go out and enjoy it. We achieved a hell of a lot more with an awful lot more pressure, this one is for fun.

That's not why Dublin is becoming "not Dublin."

Glad you are relaxed about it. I would hate if you were under too much pressure. I'm sure the players on both sides feel the same pressure as any other year , but we are all delighted for you.

Fully agree with this.

Although in the past - it still leaves a sour taste tbh.

I'm not a fan of the black card because of inconsistent application but as black cards go Keegan's in 2016 is certainly not one of the harsher ones. D.C gets out in front of Lee, Lee grabs a fistful of D.C's Jersey with his right hand and pulls him to the ground with his left arm around Diarmo's neck.
Did Connolly go down a bit easy or was he off balance and the foul brought him to ground. Tough one for the ref but was certainly a foul and cynical.

I feel the same way, as do many Dubs. So thanks a million for being so delighted for us. That's very nice of you, indeed.

I hear you Barney and I am very familiar with that feeling. Our city has changed so much in the last few years -something has been surely lost . I hardly recognise it now and ghenerally stay out of the city centre.

I'll be honest and say this is the most meaningful one for me personally since 2011.

I just think it's hilariously funny that we have a poster on a GAA forum that doesn't know the difference between a Dub and a Kerryman, or a linesman and a referee or the championship in 2017 and the championship way back in 2008, thanks for the laughs."
Well said, it was nothing, it was not a shove either he was pleading his innocence. A retrospective nonsense, also they end of Sunday Game as we knew it.

I'm living in an area where up to 5/6 years ago the place would be festooned with flags and bunting and jerseys. Local club doesn't even seem to have bothered so far this time. Makes you realise how little people identify with the city any more. the only ones really interested are the people who will be there on Sunday. A pretty small proportion of a million people.

Dublin by 5 to 7 points. Kerry haven't near the depth needed for this one.

1.458 million.
I suppose 1 million is a close approximation . Rounded down slightly by about the total population of Connacht.

I agree it was a foul and I agree it was cynical.
But it wasn't a black card offence.

Connolly even said in a subsequent interview that Keegan pulled him back, not down.
