If Galway hadn't been in Leinster they'd have gone direct to an AISF anyway! There were sacrifices on both sides. I'd contend that Galway's presence in Leinster, the ferocious battles they had with KK, their drawn games that took so much out of both sides gave both Wexford and Dublin a better chance to win both Leinster and an AIF. Would Dublin have won a Leinster if Galway weren't there? We'll never know but I have my doubts!

Galway didn't want to go straight into an AISF as they thought that was the reason they did so badly in AISFs and AIFs. Despite having a very good team for the last 15 years their record in AISFs and AIFs hasn't got much better though. There have to be other issues at play but I guess that's a whole new discussion.

Clares record in the championship against wexford is excellent. Win in 02, 05, 06 Draw in 13, Clare win aet Draw the wexford win in 14 I think Clare in 18 Again last year. The 2 I struggle with are 13 and last year. Wouldn't challenge Clare were way ahead the other days. Three points up in 13 with a couple of minutes to go. Our full back went down and play should have been stopped. Ye won the all Ireland out of it. Last year Tony Kelly was totally dominated by Shane reck so tk bursted him between the legs then Clare took over. That was the winning of the match. I'll be straight up and tell you I don't like Clare very much. In my experience, Clare supporters have been really unsporting and have a level of arrogance they've done nothing to earn. Not saying that's everyone, just my experience. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3837 - 08/07/2023 17:14:35 2493147 Link 0 |
My money today is on a Galway win. There'll be nothing in it.. I agree with Henry last week when he said he looks forward to the day that Galway actually do click.. if they repeat the work ethic and improve the scoring efficiency they'll beat Limerick. It was some goal alright! Looked like they were going to be 8/9 points up at ht. Took the foot off the gas and now just one up. Should be a great second half..

Having watched a lot of hurling over many years, I really have a problem with Quaid stalling his puck out and wasting time killing the momentum of the match. carlowman (Carlow) - Posts: 1881 - 08/07/2023 18:54:40 2493163 Link 5 |
Yes, awful sportsmanship

Galway clicked and then were unclicked by the same Henry when he put us on the defensive when we had Limerick on the ropes in the first half. That said Limerick are some team and really found that extra gear in the second half when we were found wanting. They're some pack.

Limerick back to their best. Can't see Kilkenny or Clare stopping them in a few weeks Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1478 - 08/07/2023 19:41:25 2493169 Link 0 |
Limerick are a machine. Always move through the gears when they have to. Great side. They must be the biggest, most powerful outfit ever to take to a hurling field. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9825 - 08/07/2023 19:41:28 2493170 Link 1 |
Our full back line is shambolic

Hard to see Henry staying after this, Galway no closer to winning an all Ireland than they were when he took over. ballydalane (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1257 - 08/07/2023 19:45:18 2493172 Link 0 |
Very weak indeed. Which made Shefflin's decision to switch to defense all the more bizarre. I understand the style we were playing was intense and hard to sustain for a full 70 minutes, but ffs at least see out the half. I'm not convinced by him as a manager at all. At least we managed to cut out the mad shots from the half back line! But again, that Limerick team were a league ahead of us. We've been playing mediocre hurling all championship and got knocked out about where we deserved to be. festinog (Galway) - Posts: 3152 - 08/07/2023 19:52:26 2493176 Link 0 |
Men against boys. Galway were very poor. And Limerick weren't even at their sharpest when it came to shooting. Limerick could easily have won that by game by 20 points. But Limk will have to up it again if they are to win the final. Hope the All-stars don't forget Whelan when they pick their team later in the year. Class act, mighty season but can't do much if the ball isn't going into him. foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2347 - 08/07/2023 19:54:03 2493177 Link 1 |
Galway 6 points ahead 28 minutes played but end up losing by 9 points. Main conclusion is Limerick's fitness is off the charts. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 4125 - 08/07/2023 19:59:13 2493180 Link 0 |
I know Henry will come under huge pressure now but where were the Galway leaders when it started to go wrong..2 mannions,Burke,Mcinerney..when it was going good these boys were flying but when needed effort or fight wasn't there..these are great days for limerick that I never thought I'd see and I'm glad to be alive for it..we are lucky to have players who stand up when really needed..we got a hold on whelan which just took a huge weapon from Galway..it could be the end of the road for a few and I'm sure the next few days are going to be very difficult.. A performance like that in the second half will handily see off either of the other two semi finalists.

It started to go wrong when Henry changed tactics in the first half. Though I'd agree that there are problems on the field too. But change must start at the top.

Galway were septic that second half. Galway haven't improved under Shefflin and I don't know is he the man to manage them to an All Ireland. He should have never changed what was working so well. Galway have unbelievably talented players but that second half was dire. Frontier1000 (Cork) - Posts: 64 - 08/07/2023 20:45:31 2493200 Link 0 |
