All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 2023

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Next week is the start of the hurling championship. Anyone have any predictons on the 3 teams coming out of the provincial round robins, provincial winners and All-Ireland winners.

Is it just me or does this year feel a lot more downbeat than other years? So many teams took no interest at all in the league. I'm beginning to think I'd include Kk in that too.
I think in Munster Waterford and Clare are def going to come out all guns blazing and I think both might get through with Limerick but teams first games will tell us a lot.
Wexford seem to be in a bit of bother this year but they still have plenty of good hurlers. Dublin I've no idea where they are but I'm tipping them to get out of Leinster with Kilkenny and Galway. Galway have mixed the bad and the good since 2017 and are possibly a team with the most players around the 30 age mark. Might well be still best placed to beat Limerick but if they line out the way they did in the league in the backs I can't see them beating Limerick.
I hate to say it but I think this will be Limericks easiest All Ireland yet. Their starting 15 is too good and their bench is better than other years and improving. They can replace the irreplaceables now in Hannon and Lynch.
Hoping for some green shoots from Tipp and a dog fight in both provinces to see who makes the top 3

Sure why not.

Wexford
Galway
Kilkenny

Limerick
Tipp
Cork

Leinster hurts me but Galway

Munster to limerick

All Ireland limerick

Limerick are even better this year and regrettably don't see anyone laying a glove on them.

Munster is very open. Not confident in the above at all. It could very easily be Clare and Waterford but limerick are nailed on obviously.

Leinster is likely to come down to the last day again.

Think kilkenny are massively overhyped this year. Galway are better than us but equally as inconsistent. They could beat everyone and then lose to Dublin.

We could beat 2 of the big 3 and throw it away with antrim (no disrespect).

What I hope for us is to beat kk and Dublin, home advantage and Croke Park considered, then only have to beat Galway once in a final, although hard to imagine at this point, stranger things have happened.

We're likely in for a couple of lean years given how woefully behind Davy left us in terms of player development. A very good starting 15, but painfully exposed with injuries so far this year.

It's a big year for Henry in Galway. Probably the best equipped to match limerick on a given day but don't see it right now.

In terms of Munster, everyone will have their own thoughts but aside from Limerick it's a coin toss.

Tipperary were hot in the league but Cahill had Waterford flying this time last year and they were woeful in the championship. I still think Tipp are missing a few top quality hurlers and have a number of injuries so the jury is out really.

Cork played in fits and starts in the league. I just can't see them challenging for silverware. They are lacking a bit of physicality and bite.

Waterford who knows. Davy has been talking them down but sure what does that mean really. They have some good players but I put them 5th in Munster at this moment in time. The sad truth though is that ranking them 5th in Munster isn't a bad thing per sei as the reality is (outside of Limerick) any team in Munster could beat the other.

My own county, I think Lohan got what he wanted out of the league, but again no real form guide to go off but I think we will qualify again as we have a superb round robin record (the format seems to suit us), we have Aidan McCarthy back flying and Adam Hogan is a real gem of a young defender and we have Tipp and Cork at home and I think those are the 2 games that will determine our season.

I think Limerick, Clare and a coin toss between Tipp and Cork.

In Leinster, KK and Galway will qualify and I fear a bit for Wexford and so I think the Dubs might snatch 3rd

Leinster

1. Galway (Provincial winner)
2. Kilkenny
3. Dublin

I think it will be a close thing between Galway and Kilkenny for the top two spots. Kilkenny, especially Lyng, will have been very disappointed with, not so the defeat to Limerick, but manner in which they played. He has time to work on this, plus with one or two more players fit to return and Westmeath the opponents in Round 1. Galway play Wexford in Salthill, before facing Kilkenny in Nowlan Park the following week, that game may well decide who finishes top of the table.

Things, generally, don't seem to be going well in Wexford this year, so I think this year could be a chance for Dublin to take 3rd place.

Munster

1. Limerick (P)
2. Tipperary
3. Cork.

I think Limerick will be even better and stronger than last year.
I don't see much between Cork and Tipp.

All-Ireland winners

Limerick

Too many questions hanging over Wexford at the moment with injuries and no form whatsoever shown this year.

Munster
Limerick
Clare
Waterford

Think Davy will get a kick out of Waterford. Not having 2 games in walsh Park won't help their cause but still think they might squeeze through

All Ireland
Limerick v Galway….. Limerick to win

The championship will be very different to what happened in the league. I think most teams, especially Clare, Waterford, Dublin, Wexford, Galway & Cork in the semi final, treated it similar to Limerick last year. The last thing Cofk needed was a league final V Limerick three weeks before championship.

So I think next Sunday evening will see a lot of different Munster predictions. Leinster is basically a decision between Dublin & Wexford for third. Leinster final is fairly open but I predict Galway.

Overhyped how yes lost limerick badly but league final and it's early on and championship. Wexford have done nothing say above Galway and kk

I agree that KK are overhyped.
Look they will always be hard to beat but I think so much depends on TJ and whether he is able to play at the same level as last year. Eventually he will slow down.
Add in the fact that they are missing players from last year and are in the first season without Cody I think they could be in for a rocky enough campaign.
Saying that they will probably still get out of Leinster but I wouldn't have them as nailed on as it is being made out to be and I certainly wouldn't say they are the next best to Limerick.

Speaking with a Wexford hat on and i can't fully buy into the negativity. The League is a useless tool for judging how a county is really going.
Wexford grew into the Championship last year, drew with Galway, beat Kilkenny and lost to Clare narrowly. all three of those teams pushed Limerick to the pin of their collar and i'd be hoping that we have the Championship properly targeted this year and have a good cut with a very similar panel with perhaps a bit more depth than last year. TIme will tell.

Disappointing to see RTE seemed to have changed their stance this year.
Roscommon (again) and Galway over Clare and Tipp - very disappointing choice. Biased but I'm confident which is going to be the better specatacle

It's a huge shame and i said it at the time that sky pulled its coverage from the GAA. Its only in the coming weeks this will be evident as a big loss. Coverage was excellent. Analysis was progressive and insightful. They covered all the matches RTE didn't in the hurling. GAAGO is for me a poorer alternative as a pay wall selling a product as the majority of its package I personally have little interest in.

Have been banging much the same drum myself for years. If somebody complained about "why are the matches on Sky?", I'd point out that they were matches that otherwise wouldn't be shown at all, and surely better that they be shown somewhere rather than nowhere.

Also curious that nobody this year seems to be complaining "awful that it's only on GAA GO, what about the old people who don't have the internet?" in the same way that they used to complain "awful that it's only on Sky, what about the old people who don't have a subscription?"

Can't see anyone getting near Limerick this year, think this is the strongest they've been in Kiely's tenure, has a whiff of Kilkenny in 2008 to it.
