Replying To Oldtourman: "Building a Stadium would be madness if it was the same size or in the same place. Cork have more resources and they got massive Gov grants, substantially more than other county got to rebuild Pairc Ui Caoimh again, and they are multiple millions in debt.. If we want to see Limerick back in the doldrums again, then and only then should we consider building a huge stadium. However if we sell that whole complex for development and built a 25/30.000 new Stadium out near the new Racecourse it might be a consideration. We simply not need four 40,000 plus Stadiums in Munster." No you are right Oldtourman I didn't say that but you could re-do even the seating in that stand to put it at a better angle to improve the view.

But the Gaelic grounds is a very poor stadium. Trying to park without getting caught in post match traffic is a 40 minutes walk. The tannoy system is very poor. When they start talking on it, it could be a lost child, a subsitution or a train on platform 2.
As the teams watmed up last night a ball was hit into the crowd in the uncovered stand hitting a child.
In the Limerick end terrace last night a man needed attention and only for the fans whistling, waving and begging the stewards for help, I'm not sure it would have arrived.
The services around the ground are poor. If you have kids with you trying to feed them anything decent is not possible around the ground.
Walking out of the uncovered stand basically meant walking into two gateways that were a crush. The same in Thurles last week to get into the training fields where cars were parked.
I think the match day fan deserves better.
I agree with you about Cork but their stadium is superb. I don't subscribe to this idea that JP should buy everything for us but people are bring charged decent money so should expect decent services.
I'd much rather Limerick win silverware thsn to have a state of the art stadium but there's a balance and in 2023 we are basically operating with the same tired old stadium as we had in 1990.
Your racecourse idea is a good one.

Great game and atmosphere but the Mackey Stand is as bad a stand as I've sat in. You had to constantly stand up at every passage of play. JP could open the cheque book and build a new stand there.
I saw Clare hammer Wexford earlier this year and thought they looked like a hurt team. Some change from the KK hammering.
One point, I thought the attitude of both sets of supporters to the referee was nothing short of scandalous. Every time a player fell to the ground supporters were yelping like dogs in heat for a free. The worst was with about 10 minutes to go the Limerick player totally fell over the Clare player and Limerick supporters were shouting about a free. The Limerick man in the row behind me couldn't count beyond 2 because after 2 steps he was bellowing for a free for the full match!
Before the referee had got in to talk to the umpires, I had 5 messages that it was a square ball. Could we not tell Colm Lyons and help the fellow out? Do we want the right decision or a "best guess" decision?
I loved Brian Lohan the player and his teams play like him.
Kilkenny Galway draw was fair result for me. They will meet again in Leinster Final and a good handshake today! Cork Waterford, that's time none of us are getting back. As for the eejits chanting during the minutes silence, well English soccer style drinking and chanting is prominent at Munster hurling matches as last night both sets of fans chanting "Your **** aaaahhhhh" throughout every time keeper pucked out the ball. Ridiculous.
General point, with the amount of diving and feigning injuries now going on, our games are impossible to referee. James Owens didn't fall (no pun intended) for any of it today and every county is at it. It is a blight on our game, half of the frees now given are actual frees and the other half are players leaning in to the player and falling to the ground, grabbing hurls and falling over, finding anything to fall over, pretending hurls being held, grabbing spare arm, and so on. Something has to be done about this." They won't if Dublin or Wexford win their last 3 games.

Replying To Canuck: "He would be expected to call blatant trips. We were terrible and Cork gave us a lesson but that was a pivotable point of the first half but then again he is okay with kicking also. I agree with you about hard it is to ref with all this feigning and try to get an opponent sent. These players need to be censored by giving them an un-sportsman like yellow card." I have to agree with you about Joyce's trip on the Waterford player going through. I agreed with the trip because a goal chance was on, but I was amazed there was no free.
Referees seem to miss plenty of what seems obvious fouls those days, but I'm not sure what the solution is. I have always felt that cards were a bad idea and hearken back to the days of my youth when 4 personal fouls resulted in simply a free and a warning that you would be dismissed for a fifth. I remember it being implemented just once. Striking an opponent with the fist or the hurley meant instant dismissal. I also felt that referees were much more respected in those days.

Was at the Cork-Waterford game yesterday, obviously good win for cork but I thought it was a disgrace from Cork GAA to have the City end terrace closed, I was on the blackrock end and the terrace was overcrowded. Would it not have been better to have both terraces half full then pack all in the one, even people had to stand on the steps and made it hard to walk down to the exit

I saw Kyle Hayes get pulled after two Steps in Thurles last week, after the crowd started roaring 'STEPS' for nothing.

Your racecourse idea is a good one." The way it is, as far back as the early '90s I strongly campaigned against further development of the then Gaelic Grounds. My argument was based on several grounds. some of these were (1) there was already three huge Stadia in Munster , each one in counties with a huge record of success, in the playing area, while at the same time we were struggling, Mean while Kilkenny, who had won 17 All Irelands, while we were winning one, had a 30,000 capacity and seemed to have no intention of enlarging or have they ever done so to this day.(2) How often would it be filled, in view of the fact that CK./TY, CK/KY AND TY/KY all had Home and Away arrangements for major games. The fact is we could also play major games at a neutral venue against any of the other counties and have a relatively small Stadium at home for other Home games. (3) With the huge costs involved servicing of Capital was always going to get priority over Current Expenditure, so underage development etc was always going to suffer and did for years. In relation to post match traffic problems have you ever tried to park near Pairc Ui Caoimh, Ennis, Salthill or Walsh Park on big Match Days. They are all as bad to get out off and facilities are very poor near four.

I saw the incident close up and there were two Limerick men standing on the edge of the square unattended and once the ball was got across it was a goal all day long. As the TV commentaor said, and he was a Clare Man, Flanagan waited just long enough not to be clearly inside the square before the ball came across. Clare players naturally contested it but that did not mean it was a Square Ball. Maybe 50/50 but it was not a clear cut square ball.

Munster is going to be some craic now!!! Limerick are Limerick but they have been completely off the boil the last two games and now have a serious injury problem. This is the time for champions to stand up. I still don't fancy that Cork team so i think they will qualify but if they don't get a result in Thurles there will be some pressure against Cork in the final game. At the minute i would say Tipp Limerick and Clare will qualify but who knows really.
Leinster is trudging along as expected. I think Wexford will beat Dublin on Saturday and might qualify for Leinster Final as i fancy them in Wexford Park against KK.

It was a great game but Clare played at top of there game and still only won by 1 you have to have all the cards on the table to compete with Limerick, and Waterford seems to prove that, as they were drained of energy on Sunday. It wont be easy for either Limerick or ourselves, with tough away games to Tipp & WF, but I really hope we meet later in championship, because no matter what anyone says last years 3 games last year and the game on Saturday were games of the ages physical skilful and draining to watch but wonderful.

Well even if they do not win another match, this fine Limerick team has nothing left to prove. Apart From Kilkenny, they are arguably the most successful hurling side in almost eighty years, going all the way back to Corks four in a row team of the forties. By winning a three in a row, with four in five years and four Munsters in a row, they have done something no other side, except that great KK team, has done in any five year period, in all that time. Considering they have only the sixth highest hurling population in the country and were down for so long before 2018, this is some achievement. Incidentally, I do not think they played that poorly last Saturday Night. There was nothing between those two sides last year, so Clare were always liable to turn us over at some stage.

Great to have you back. Joking aside clare were powerful last Saturday and deserved their win.
Limerick are a little off it right now but the 3 weeks break now is probably the best thing for them. Thurles will now be like the GG a huge match for both teams. Cahill probably would have preferred a limerick win last weekend but he won't shy away from the challenge one bit. I think the scare v Waterford didn't quite do the job to refocus Limerick. The defeat to clare most certainly will. Its been 4 years since they've lost a championship match and that's a lifetime to a 25 year old. It almost seems like they felt no matter what they'll get the job done and now they know they can be beaten if not at it.
Calling the 3 in munster is even harder now as bar Waterford the other 4 will feel they've a huge chance. I think Waterford might still cause a team a huge problem yet and may even win a match but I just don't see them getting 2 wins and their points difference now is very poor.
Cork v tipp is huge next weekend. If tipp beat cork cork could find themselves in real trouble with trips to ennis and Limerick then ahead. If cork win tipp will know the match v Limerick is huge for them too and pressure will be on them too.
It's fascinating Leinster unfortunately will be quite predictable I think with likely wexford to take the 3rd spot.

Yeah that has intrigued me too, as to how almost no comment has been made on how Duggan grabbed O'Donoghue around the head and knocked him to the ground. It seemed a very obvious foul.
Clare was the better side and deserved to win, but it makes no sense how such a pivotal moment in the game hasn't been commented on anywhere. Anywhere that I've checked anyway.
