Disagree. People go on about 3 advancing from a group but group winners go direct to quarter-finals.

Brilliant they weren't but didn't need to be as they got over the line with the 2 important points.

PP has Dublin favs for the Sam now because of that game today, I certainly don't. Clifford is delivering and has become the player most of us thought he would.

They need to wrap him up so that was a bad defeat today as they could have rested him I feel.

Be great if Roscommon could take down Dublin. It would mean Connacht teams have taken down the last 3 All Ireland champions. The more Connacht teams progressing the better. Come on Ros.

Fair enough, maybe they'll be a bit bothered, to say other was probably a bit strong but the new system provides a strong safety net (a team could lose 3 games and still win the all Ireland).
Clifford and Co will still be sleeping fairly soundly tonight I reckon.

No chance of any Ulster side of doing much damage in the All Ireland. The standard of football in the province is as poor as it's been in a long time.

Clifford is just unbelievable. The best player in the country by some distance.

Great win for Mayo. Fair play to get a win in Killarney.

It does mean though meeting a group winner in the quarterfinal stage rather than semi-final, makes it a much harder All Ireland to win , if you have to meet a Dublin, Galway or Derry at qtr final stage as well as semi final and final , and with an extra game on route.

Yeah. First go straight to a quarter-final. Second have home advantage in the playoff. Everyone who gets to the knockout stage will have had a fair level of competition from the group stage.

Why were Kerry in navy today?

I'd doubt it. Any top player takes a lot of pride in how his team performs. Losing their unbeaten home championship record after being deservedly beaten, will definitely bother them. They wouldn't be fit to represent Kerry, if it didn't.

I suppose the problem for Kerry is that Clifford played really well today and they still lost by 5. What happens if he has an off-day (unlikely I know), or if he gets injured.

speak for yourself, sure derry beat dublin already this year, tyrone lost on a horrible day in salthill but played well (at the game) despite the black and red card, the spent donegal team washed away the munster finalists, and Cavan are in for a shout for an all ireland as well.

saying an ulster team wont win an all ireland is just lazy considering the 3 best rated teams in the country are not from the province. And as poor as its been for a long time??? define both poor and long time please? Last time we didnt have a team at least in the semis was 7 or 8 years ago

Does the group winner take the provincial seeding through to semi finals?

If Mayo top Kerrys group and Galway win their group, are Mayo and Galway seeded to meet in the semis?

Big win for Mayo yesterday, but if normal service resumes for them Louth will beat them in Castlebar next game. Aiden O Shea got man of the match, he did play well and Kerry could not control him but David Clifford is a different class and by far best player on the field.

Kerry's trajectory is similar to Tyrone last year. Tyrone aren't going any better this year. Galway, Mayo and the Big Smoke the current top 3.

Yes the last Ulster team win in the All Ireland Final was only two years ago. For all the talk of Mayo winning in Killarney and Galway and Roscommon going well, a Connacht team hasn't won Sam Maguire for all of 22 years.

The Big Smoke didn't exactly hit it out of the park when scraping by Kildare with 2 points to spare. Louth were so open that a fleet of buses could have driven through their defence. So hard to know yet where Dublin are at. In a sense, the serious action only starts when we finally get to knock out games and then we'll see who has what. I do think though that Galway will come very close this year and may end their and Connacht's 22 year drought. Mayo were being talked up after the League but Roscommon outplayed them in Castlebar and more talk of Mayo now after Killarney but Kerry seemed very flat bar the always outstanding David Clifford.
