Replying To Curlew66:  "Wouldn't write off Monaghan and Clare in R1 matches or indeed Tyrone in both R1 and R2 .. let's see how matches play out. Looking forward to it"
Sligo v Donegal would have been an interesting local derby. Sligo v Kildare, if Kildare return to their indifferent league form, Sligo can well cause an upset.
Clare v Donegal. A disappointing year for Donegal so far. If Clare are to get something from the group, they will have to make home advantage count in the first game. If all teams win their home games, everyone goes into Round 3 with everything to play for.

I think there is a lot of talk that in some peoples opinion it might be in some counties' best interest to lose provincial final.
I disagree , I think the groups are fairly balanced and there is clear benefit in winning the province.
However there is one caveat on this statement and that is if there are upsets this weekend it would change the dynamic for the games the following weekend.
For example if Clare and Sligo both pulled off shocks then :
Ulster winner in group with Kerry, Monaghan, Donegal
Ulster runner up in group with Sligo, Tyrone, Westmeath.
Unlikely to happen , but...

Has anyone outside the "big 9" any hope of making a Qtr Final?
The 9 being Kerry, Galway, Dublin, Derry, Mayo Roscommon, Tyrone, Armagh, Monaghan.

12 counties had realistic provincial ambitions. Same applies for challenging for the quarter-finals. About 6 then are realistic All-Ireland contenders.

The bookies fancy Kildare before Monaghan. They are normally fairly accurate with their predictions.

Surprised at that as I'd expect Monaghan to finish 2nd in their group and will be tough to beat in Clones in the play off round.

On what basis are Roscommon part of that group :-)

You will hopefully find out in a couple of weeks time.

Sunday 7 May

Munster SFC final
Clare v Kerry, TUS Gaelic Grounds, 4pm - RTÉ2

Connacht SFC final
Sligo v Galway, Hastings MacHale Park, 1.45pm - RTÉ2

The provincial finals today seem to have been overshadowed by the All-Ireland group draw during the week. Sligo's easy passage to a Connacht final highlights a need for seeded provincial draw based on league placing under the current format. Clare fully deserve their final appearance after overcoming Cork and Limerick.

Congratulations to Mayo. Deserving winners.

Mayo was a tough game for any provincial winner as the first home game. A flaw in the system is Mayo Seed 3. Louth, Clare and Sligo are Seed 2. Mayo as Seed 2 on league ranking would be a more appropriate third game.

Our neighbours made good use of the 6 week break to claim impressive win against the All Ireland champions, they'll be among the favourites for the All Ireland now themselves. Great win for Donegal in Ennis, looking like the exit door for Clare at the group stage.

Well done today to Mayo. A well deserved win and could have won by more only for the brilliance of David Clifford and our keeper Shane Ryan. Have to applaud Kevin McStay too and the much maligned Aidan Ó Shea.

Perhaps on the basis of Roscommon finishing third in Division 1 in the National League and beating Mayo in the championship in Castlebar who themselves beat the All Ireland champions with some ease in Killarney today.. That might be it.

Galway were brilliant today; Tyrone very poor, no chance of Tyrone doing anything in this AI series

Nothing between Roscommon and Armagh over the past decade.

In the same way mayo weren't one bit bothered about losing to roscommon, kerry won't be one bit bothered about losing today,,in fact both them and tyrone can still probably afford to lose another game after this and still make the quarters.

Brilliant you say, against 14 men with Tyrone gifting them at least 3 points.
