Can't see anything other than a comfortable Mayo win. might even be worth a punt on the -3 spread.

My Plan to Save the Provincial SFCs
Given the importance of the new AI SFC 4x4 groups, I think they could be drawn sooner after all Provincial QFs are played (moved up to mid Feb), be used to 'double up' most Provincial KO pairings, and replace the league as well.
Say: - Teams in the 'Tier 1 Super 16' should be known at the beginning of the season (based on the prior year's performance).
- After all Provincial QFs are played, draw and spread the SF 4 (or less, if some are not Super 16 members) from each Province, across the different groups - and draw all QF & 1st Rd losers to a group different to that of their opponents as well.
- All teams play a 'full crossover 12-game season' against each team in the other 3 groups, including 'most' KO Provincial 1st Rd, QFs, SFs and Finals (any Provincial 'Tier 1v2' pairings can't double up, and so, are played separately).
- 4 group winners and 4 best others advance to 'Liam McCarthy Cup, Last 8-style' playoffs - similar to the Aussie AFL, 4 best record teams get a double chance, like Provincial SHC Finals, with 4 others in the KO QF Playoff Rd.
- Tier 2 operates with a similar 12-match 4x4, but their 'Playoff 8' merges with the 'Tier 1 Non-Playoff 8' for a stronger, double-size, 16-team Tier 2 AIC playoff field instead (8 teams, including Tier 2 top 4, get a double chance).
- Tier 1 'Playoff 8' & Tier 2 'QF 8' play in the Tier 1 4x4 groups in the following year.
- The Provincial Championship pairings are relevant, as teams strive for the 'double-up' group pts as well, in pursuit of AIC Playoff qualification via the group channel only (no automatic berth for Provincial Champions).
What do you think?

First match back for the loser could be Kerry or Dublin away.

There will be challenge games though and no shortage of available opponents.

Connacht SFC quarter-finals London 0-12 Sligo 2-20, McGovern Park FT New York v Leitrim, Gaelic Park, 11pm Irish time - GAAGO
Ulster SFC preliminary round Armagh 0-20 Antrim 1-8, Box-It Athletic Grounds FT
Good starts for Sligo and Armagh. Sligo footballers and Offaly hurlers picked up championship wins today after league success last week! Sligo have Leitrim or New York next. Cavan v Armagh in Ulster.

What a fantastic win for New York. Tough on Leitrim for sure but delighted for New York. An iconic win. Up there with London making Connaught final and Clare and Leitrim wi nong provincial football finals in 92 and 94 respectively. Great excitement. New York often had great players but struggled to get proper game practice. A great spread of players this year with top players from Galway Kerry Tipp Dublin and American born players. A truly great win.

Which places all the more premium on winning or at least making the final. And convinces me that Mayo will not be caught napping today. Connaught winner going to be in probably the weakest of the four groups,
Early days but the league, the way they played last Sunday and the new lease that hss been injected into the team I can't see anything other than a comfortable win.

Connacht SFC quarter-final Mayo 0-10 Roscommon 2-8, Hastings MacHale Park FT
Leinster SFC preliminary round Wicklow 2-12 Carlow 0-10, Aughrim FT Longford 1-11 Offaly 1-12, Glennon Brothers Pearse Park FT Laois 2-17 Wexford 2-13, Laois Hire O'Moore Park FT
Munster SFC quarter-finals Tipperary 3-9 Waterford 1-11, FBD Semple Stadium FT Clare 0-14 Cork 0-13, Cusack Park, Ennis FT
Clare needed a win and they delivered. Clare v Limerick will an interesting shoot out for an All-Ireland spot. Could be very bad news for Kildare. Especially if Meath make the Leinster final. If Cavan make the Ulster final, Cork could drop into the Tailteann Cup.

You'd feel pretty bad for Kildare if they miss out as a result of Meath getting to the Leinster final.

Obviously with the result but also your assessment that connaught winner will be the weakest group. What might be fair to say is that the group with connacht runner up is probably going yo be the weakest group.

Replying To Whammo86: "You'd feel pretty bad for Kildare if they miss out as a result of Meath getting to the Leinster final." What do you think of my 4 groups of 4, 12-match crossover? With each Prov SF 4 spread across the groups, Prov SF & Final pairings are built into the schedule, as they are for Prov QF & 1st Rd as well, with match opponents split to different groups? Maybe we don't need to silo the League, Provs & AIC, when you can link them all together in one neat competition.

The efforts of Cavan, Meath and Clare or Limerick to make a provincial final is an interesting dynamic. It'll be interesting to see how it all unfolds in the next few weeks.
