Wexford Intercounty Hurling 2023

@Viking66 - again, post gets too messy when I quote it, but just to reply to a point above:

For clarity, I'm not maintaining that somebody who plays senior hurling and who has a strong preference for hurling would make exactly the same effort for football as he does for hurling.

I'm saying that he'd make the same effort for football whether he plays on the club's first football team or second football team. That might be 100% his hurling effort, or it might be only 80%, or might just be 50%. But if he's an 80% man, it'll be 80% whether he's on the first football team or the second one.

The league was fine apart from a lack of promotion/relegation and there was division finals played.

And it's very easy btw to make the league more interesting.

In many counties they link promotion in the league to promotion in the championship. For example if you play and win the intermediate league then you automatically go up to senior in both league and championship the following year meaning teams can be promoted by either league or championship.

It would be radical in Wexford but interesting nonetheless

So 2 promoted and 2 relegated?

League and championship must always be kept entirely separate due to the absence of intercounty players from the league.

I know we complain and argue over different systems, but there are loads of counties who are certainly not worth looking to for good examples. Relatively speaking Wexford GAA is really on the ball when it comes to the way the championships are run and designed .

Agree re inter county players.

My issue this year is the hurling was finished too early.

Agree 100% that league and championship should be kept separate. Two different competitions and teams be missing players to county panels during leagues, not fair on the club and the county players either. Linking league and championship has be tried before and I remember a famous incident were a team who reached a county senior championship semi final were still relegated due to league standings. Doesn't work. Actually don't mind the current format, I don't really follow or care about football but at least it means football isn't loosing lads who don't want to play only hurling if it's alternating weeks and gives them a fair chance to play both. Might be an idea to switch around who goes first and who goes second. But all round its worked pretty well bar maybe won't help whoever goes first in the provincial stage.

Where are you getting news of League fixtures? Or at least one League fixture anyway?

It's in the link posted on another thread. An article by Colm Keys in the Indo.

Presume home and away will just be a reverse of last year which would mean Galway and Clare at home and away to Limerick, Cork and Westmeath.

we played limerick at home in the league this year that weekend so I'm guessing just an error from the admins.

Not sure that's the case. There aren't home and away arrangements made with every other county

Don't think it's an arrangement between counties, I think the league fixtures for every 2 years are paired by croke park, e.g 2020&21 we played Kilkenny, Dublin, Laois, Clare in both years in the league, 1 year at home and 1 away, then in 20 we played Carlow at home and Antrim away in 21 due promotion and relegation for those counties. I think 2023 fixtures will be paired from those earlier this year with home and away swapped around.
