No doubt about that, even this year all the talk at Division 2 games was of trying to avoid the drop and the dreaded tag of teacup contenders. Div 2 and 3 will be a real dogfight from now on, which can only be a good thing.

There won't be 1000 at any game . Nothing attractive about any match drawn

Rome wasn't built in a day. Proper supporters will support their county as they strive to qualify for the Sam Maguire 16.

The only reason this might work is that it gets the winner into the main competition which previous versions didn't do. Alas not until 2023 which I think they need to change. The winner should get into the latter stages of this year's competition. I can't imagine that Offaly will be too excited at the prospect of playing against wexford again especially as they were relegated with the last kick of the league. I would imagine that the GAA are hoping that this takes off and works otherwise it is back to the drawing board. The fact that one of the instigators of the Tailteann cup is my own county's county board doesn't fill me with optimism based upon their track record of success in my own county.

But would they not support them anyway in the league to try and get up to division two to compete for the Sam Maguire 16?? Itw ould be easier prob to get promoted and more interest in the league than this farce of a thing

Yes and proper supporters will still see only around 500 max at games.

Take off like a meteorite. Which doesn't take off, it falls to earth. Hopefully this years Tailteann Cup can stay in orbit with some tasty games of football.

I was in Austin Stacks Park on Saturday for Kerry v Offaly. A cracking game in the McDonagh Cup. Only €10 entrance fee. Great value for a classic. Sadly it wasn't Kerry's day. C'mon Carlow! Such a great county.

Proper supporters? Enough of this snobby attitude you have. Many supporters will have to pick and choose what matches they'll go to, with cost of living and such. Many simply won't go to early rounds as the prestige isn't there, and they'll hold their powder dry until later. No need for you to be so snobby and say that

How can you do that, when the Tailteann can only be drawn after provincial semis are over, and the final is later in the summer when the qualifiers will be long over. How do you add them in then?

How is New York in this competition? Why are they getting a bye to the quarter final? Why is it regionalised? Why is Longford in the northern section and the rest of Leinster in the southern one? This competition is in its death throes before it even starts weatherfieldgael (UK) - Posts: 60 - 16/05/2022 13:08:17 2417669 Link 1 |
Replying to my own comment on fixtures, I'd see Westmeath, Antrim, Cavan and Tipperary as favourites to make the semi-finals, as long as they avoid each other in the quarter-finals. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 7842 - 16/05/2022 13:09:22 2417670 Link 0 |
Would I be right in saying that in 2023 being in Division 2 doesn't guarantee place in the All_ireland Series? Unlikely but not guaranteed. Solo_Run (Leitrim) - Posts: 209 - 16/05/2022 13:18:55 2417680 Link 0 |
It seems that this cup is in trouble already which is a shame- we are crying out for some change in fairness as the current format is not fit for purpose but this does not seem to be the answer howdareu (USA) - Posts: 220 - 16/05/2022 13:23:33 2417685 Link 0 |
So this isn't an All Ireland competition this year, it is a regional one. How can the GAA consistently make a bags of a competition that is a hard sell in the first place, with a convoluted draw that makes no sense. And the very large issue of a team getting an unfair bye into a quarter final. With the question what happens if that team wins said quarter final? weatherfieldgael (UK) - Posts: 60 - 16/05/2022 13:23:37 2417686 Link 1 |
Completely agree. It would transform this competition. You would probably increase attendances from 1-2000 to about 7 or 8 thousand. This competition's success will be decided by the supporters, not the players.

He's sounding like roryboys on the Donegal thread, 'real supporters' you'd need to be really bored to go to some of these games, there's plenty better things to do, like watching paint dry maybe, 'Take off like a meteorite' good spot Greeenandred, lol it will more likely crash to earth like a bloody meteorite, whatever chance it had the way McCarthy and the GAA have set it up it's failed before it's even started.
