So it's another anti Ulster thing he wasn't sent off for something that wasn't an actual foul?

No it didn't, Kieran Martin changed the whole complexion of the game when 5 defenders let him sally through and the goalie Galligan fell on his rear end before Martin struck the ball. I was shocked at how poor Cavan were. Particularly the inside forwards. No movement, the half forwards just moved the ball back and over the pitch all through the game probing for openings that never really came.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71bM9vypSV8 At 55mins on the video, or 50 mins on the match Westmeath should have had a free for shoulder to chest of O'Toole inside Cavan 45. Cavan subsequently won a free a few seconds later and worked the ball down for the soft goal they got. When it showed this replay on screen in Croke park Cavan fans beside us couldn't understand how we didn't get the free. We over played the ball numerous times in first half. Westmeath should have been out of site. By far the better team. The_Fonz (Westmeath) - Posts: 214 - 11/07/2022 16:15:33 2431476 Link 0 |
Nothing worse than an ungracious winner, that game was very evenly matched and would have gone either way if it was 15 each at the end. Red was deserved but made a big difference as cavan were leading by 2/3 points and had momentum after kicking two great scores. Westmeaths first goal was as soft and lucky as they come too. Well done to Westmeath, hopefully we'll both go up from Div 3 and we can have a League final in Croke Park next year.

Ball was free when O Shea kicked it. No foul. No red card. 2nd goal by K Martin 5 Cavan defenders around him and not 1 put any kind of tackle in. 1st goal bit fortunate as Westmeath player handled it in ground but you take them all day long especially when we had 2 v 1 on the diagonal into the square and we couldn't win it. Nobody to blame only ourselves. Poor defending all year long caught up with us Breffni1969 (Cavan) - Posts: 510 - 12/07/2022 12:10:38 2431628 Link 1 |
There were some great images online of the celebrations in Westmeath. Intermediate and Junior clubs have enjoyed their days out in recent years. Winning at a fair level and then moving up to the next tier. Westmeath will enter the Sam Maguire 16 group stage with a high profile and the respect of the nation. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8788 - 13/07/2022 13:55:57 2431868 Link 0 |
The past couple of seasons Luke Loughlin came in for criticism for being on and off the panel. Rumors of discipline etc. It's a pity people did not know what was going on. A brave step to come out and tell the world his most personal troubles. I hope he can put these thing behind him and live life to the full. Read Rule 1(2)(ii) of the playing rules of football.

Thanks for posting that and fair play to Luke Loughlin for sharing his troubles. Hopefully this might help some people to try talking about any mental health issues they have.

Check the rules - rule 5.2 states that it's a sending off : "To kick or attempt to kick an opponent, with minimal force." Textbook sending off offence. Yellow all day long if the ref was being generous. points50swiththeargyllsonthewrongfeet (Tyrone) - Posts: 293 - 14/07/2022 17:53:25 2432116 Link 0 |
