Waterford 7-31 Laois 0-19.

33 point loss and this is without the Ballygunner players.

Yeah, and what's your point?

Great results for Wexford and Tipp.

That dismantling of Laois on the other hand makes for very grim stuff. Today they're the Italy of Group B.

Yes, would not wish this on Laois. So many Waterford players looking for a spot made them relentless. I can't see Pauric getting back. May be he has another gear but is 30. Not enough from general play and his ratio on the frees has gone down some. Too many option there in Stephen Bennett and Patrick Currran.

I'd rate Hegarty very highly indeed. He's unbelievably skillfull for a 6'5 inch man. Iv seen him all the way up, he's improved every year . He has alot of hurling to compliment his size ,aggression and power. I ll point out that he's a big game player scoring 0-7 and 2.02 in the last 2 all Ireland finals from play. The great Joe Canning never came close to those stats in All Ireland finals. Hegarty is a great player and I don't like the insinuating going on here. Its sad stuff.
Galway were good yesterday. Its not unusual for Galway to be extremely good and slick early season but then calve as the season goes on. That's Galway.

Good performances all over the pitch. MOH, DOK, Donohue and Damien Reck look nearly back to their best. Dwyer looked good too. Mac had a right battle. Paudie Foley is growing into the no. 6 game by game. Fanning was very brave and puckouts weren't too bad either. All in all alot of positives."
Yeah Foley has been immense the past 2 games. Its great to see him back again, he's a great bit of stuff.

Just shows that for all the clamour to develop more hurling counties, those at McDonagh Cup level simply aren't good enough to compete with the big guns even in the league never mind championship. An odd shock once in a blue moon isn't enough justification to continue these mismatches.

And I can't see how young hurlers coming up in Laois can look at that and think "yeah I want a taste of that when I am older"

Great result for Tipp?
They beat Kilkenny by 1 point in a league game in Thurles.
I'd be more insulted if I was Tipp supporter by you calling this a 'great result'.

Dont think he was good enough in general play for the way you play the running and passing game 2 or 3 years ago.

And everyone saying westmeath were wasting their time last year, how bad are offaly, the manager is in his third year there no system, no gameplan, s and c light years behind trying to break tackles handpassing the ball not physically up to it, also continuing and insisting with short puckouts and the receiver has been caught out 4 or 5 times today, shocking stuff

Great hurling games over weekend; close, exciting and skillful-bar Waterford/Laois, and Cork/Offaly.

Dublin did well to take the two points outta Corrigan Park. Mattie has them flying (RIP his mother). The Dubs could be dark horses for Liam.

Clare and Wexford was close, as expected. Some good hurling in it, too. I can't see either team taking McCarthy home this year.

KK and Tipp was the proverbial game of two halves: true KK/Tipp encounter; great skill for this time of year. Two Strong AI contenders for later in the year here.

Galway and Limerick played a fine tough game, good stuff all round. If Henry can get Galway to be consistent each time they go out, then he way have the Midas touch to bring Liam across the Shannon. Obviously, Limk are still strong contenders for July, but the gap is closing fast. The water breaks gone won't do Limk any favors, and they need to knuckle down on their discipline. 14 players won't beat 15 in the modern game.

Obviously, Waterford has a strong hand (good to hear De Burca is fit again… great hurler), and Ballygunner's win should buoy them up even more.

Cork has stated the league well, but I can't see the big one happening for Cork…not for 3-4 years anyway.

BUT, it's only the league…so…

Great result for Galway Saturday I'm absolutely delighted we won "that" game even though We hadn't our full team out!
Huge game next in two weeks v Wexford....they looked fantastic today in the soft wet conditions in Ennis!! We will have to be at our best to beat them!!

Let's remember to that Offaly lost at home to cork..two really worrying results when we need more teams competing for McCarthy cup..two big wins for tipp and Wexford and actually very enjoyable to watch..a question has over carrying of the ball been done away with,it happened numerous times today and to last night..

That the result could have been even worse if Waterford had their full contingent. Don't think I could have said it clearer.

Tell me another wing forward who has scored 2.9 from play in two All Ireland finals and each against quality opposition. Every body is getting away with steps now and have been with years. I saw DJC take nine steps with the ball in his hand, in Croke Park about 30 years ago and then bury the ball in the back of the Wexford net. For years the rules are not applied and savvy players will always use that to their own advantage. Over forty years ago Christy Ring was telling his Cork charges that they would get away 'with more steps' with Leinster Refs. In the GAA the rules have always been there to be broken.

Galway are not going to calve anytime soon lol. Again you are one of those annoying Limerick fans that think 2018 was the year that hurling was invented but were very quiet for 45 years before that (and the odd 40 years before that) - a lot of "calving" there don't you think?

Replying To baire:  "The Galway players well remember Hegarty's cowardly strike on JC in 2020! He escaped a red card that night in Croker. The most pleasing aspect from a Galway point of view is that they didn't allow Hegarty and others to bully them last night."
The great JC dished out plenty in his hurling career and you can't argue with that and I'm someone who rate Canning above Shefflin all say.

Ye calved for 40 odd years, don't rate Hegarty in the same league as Joe Canning, he did what he did at 15 years of age. You are on the crest of a wave at the moment and fair play to you,but like the Dublin footballers it won't last forever, enjoy it while it lasts.

Ya that's a fair post. In last year's league game Galway looked really good too. And as you say no amount of bottles of calcium could lift them later in the year. Interesting to see how they'll cope in big matches later in the year without Joe. Saying that, when C Mannion keeps his feet he could be a matchwinner
