Oh yes. We have a jaysus team :-) BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3542 - 26/02/2022 18:37:30 2402537 Link 0 |
Hopefully Duggan will pick up from where he left off a few years ago. This weeks OTB hurling power ranking podcast placed Clare at 9. Duggan & TK might move them up a few positions. If Clare can pick it up a bit it will make for a serious Munster SH round robin. At the moment Leinster is looking to be more competitive than Munster …especially after a brilliant win by Dublin tonight!!

I do think Leinster have stepped it up a good bit with Dublin and Wexford. But I still think we will have another All Ireland final with no leinster team. That's my gut feeling. Top 5 teams are Limerick ,Waterford, Galway,Cork and Dublin in that order ,at the moment.

I wouldn't put ourselves in top 5 until we either win Leinster or take out one of the big beasts from Munster in championship. Last two exits against Cork were very tame as was Leinster final albeit it with a clatter of late Covid missing players, Way too predictable. Also has to be seen how effective their short game will be later in the year. But, all good so far and decent chance of at least making the league final. Dublin definitly going in the right direction. Good win for them tonight, I think that before this is the type of a game the dubs may have lost .

I know it's all only opinions, and I'm a bit biased. But how can you rate Dublin better than Kilkenny after a few league games?

Difficult one to call. No Willie O Donoghue , Hegarty ect. Nash and Byrnes rested. For me Aron Costello and Richie English can't touch Nash because his distribution is so good. English is a brilliant man marker but he gives somw poor passes.I like that Limerick don't change their rotation just because they haven't got results. Cork could win this. They've a good team out . I think it should be a great game. I'd like to see more of Shane Barratt. He looks exceptional and Mark Keane and Joyce midfield. I rate Cork highly even after the All Ireland drubbing. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 27/02/2022 09:42:31 2402622 Link 0 |
Limerick/Cork should be good. I remember last year thinking it would be one of the indicators of what to expect later in the year and it was. I'd thought Cork were one of the more likely teams to challenge Limerick and one of few that looked to have a real goal scoring threat. Bloodyban looking at the starting teams I think most people would expect cork to win.id say cork might be disappointed if they don't win..apart from harnedy,o Connor and cadigan it could be the championship 15..I'm looking forward to watching Costello's,Coughlan,Hanley and o neill again..weather has picked up to which could bring a bigger crowd and hopefully a better day for hurling..hope they prepared for a big crowd in Gaelic grounds and enough gates are opened..looking forward to a decent game.. Dublin are the only team that can stand up to Limerick. They should have trounced Tipp yesterday.

If Dublin can start converting the amount of chances they are creating they will be in the mix big time this year. They are as athletic as Limerick and probably have more speed in certain positions. Past hurler (None) - Posts: 929 - 27/02/2022 12:07:05 2402651 Link 0 |
There's no doubt Dublin are hurling as well as any team in the country at the moment but I'll withhold my judgement of them until after the round robin in Leinster. They've to go away to both Galway and wexford which potentially they'll have to win one of them to qualify assuming they beat Kilkenny in Parnell park (which is far from a given). I wouldn't predict anything in Leinster with any degree of confidence at the moment.

You couldn't possibly call any of the games between the four as things stand. Home advantage will be huge. It could well turn out to be like 2019 when it literally went down to the last minute of the Wexford/Kilkenny game. A win by either would have put Dublin into the final. Galway people couldn't believe they were out. So on that basis, Dublin are the least likely of the four to make the final unless they can pull off a big win on the road AND beat the stripey men in the park. Hand passing is killing the art of hurling, this keep possession at all cost. Its as bad as in the football and is becoming a bore-fest. Limerick started it and there is no doubt it works but now Wexford, Cork, Dublin all at it. A few weeks back Wexford were expecting it against Limerick and filled the area around the lad with the ball knowing that the pass was likely to be a hand pass, great if you like basketball but if you love hurling it is awful to watch. Watching the worst game of hurling I've seen in a long time. Limerick look like they ran a marathon this morning. Kingston should get a long ban for the hit on Finn. And a shocking bad decision to send off Flanagan probably compounded by the Cork lad diving on the floor holding his head. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 15815 - 27/02/2022 16:27:18 2402738 Link 2 |
Think so too. Impossible to call.

Limericks shooting is shocking. Reidy can't be trusted on frees. Kyle Hayes shocking technique gives him little chance of hitting the target. Saying all that ,Cork have been fantastic. Good shooting. Dangerous all over the pitch. The backs are playing very well, very steady. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 27/02/2022 16:30:54 2402742 Link 0 |
Isn't a bit like handpassing in football? The alternative is players just get smothered. Prefer watching likes of Limerick in full flow moving the ball quickly than end to end rucks. It's obvious that refs have been told to crack down on a throw but as Donal Óg said during our game last night when ref awarded 4/5 technical frees, and today by Pat Fluery it is an impossible rule to enforce as it's all subjective. Hope we don't have a year of this constant pulling up for what is a lower grade offence even if it is an offence because I certainly can't tell the difference! The trivial nature of it is in any case illustrated by the fact that you almost never see either opposition players or supporters getting outraged over a hand pass! BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3542 - 27/02/2022 17:32:49 2402762 Link 0 |
I wouldnt agree about the handpass. Throwing it a blight on the game. If it was a free for all the players would basically run and throw the ball from one end of the field to the other. The ref in the Limerick Cork game called them all correctly today. Obvious throws. Some weren't even an attempt at disguise. Good win for Cork. The better team by far. Decan Hannon kept number 23 for Cork on tbe pitch today. If he had gone to ground like most do the ref would have sent off the 23 for a high tackle. The fact is he should have been sent off. It was the exact same challenge as the other boys were sent off for so it was weak reffing. I really like the steeliness of Cork today. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 27/02/2022 17:43:15 2402765 Link 0 |
