Shoutout to Kieran Hughes, who has announced his 'retirement'. Brilliant interview he done talking about his career. He had so many ups and downs in his playing career, that is probably why he says he is not content with his career with Monaghan. Well worth the read if you have not read it yet.

Was a player who always brought something different to the table. He played on edge, played with style and kicked some enormous points not to mention his ability of fielding around the middle. Won some crucial kick outs in games coming from Full forward or half forward to win them. Always had the opposition teams thinking and worried about his presence on the pitch. Even played full back one county final to mark Conor McManus if I remember correctly, and a good job he done at that that day. Seemed like a player that was always willing to do whatever was needed by the team.

Really sad that we will not see that left foot swing in a Monaghan jersey again. Thanks for all the service, commitment and giving us something to cheer about. Hopefully another few years still in him for club.

Sad to see Kieran Hughes hang up the boots with Monaghan after a great club campaign, gave us some great memories over the years and always tried to entertain supporters with his skill and talent

Unreal how under utilised Kieran was. Spent most of his prime being told to track back and pass sideways - otherwise he was sat on the bench watching fellas doing just that that had barely half the ability he had. Can't remember him Conor and Jack playing in the same line for any length of time throughout his career..

Always felt kieran Hughes was never properly used by monaghan given how talented a player he was. He had a wand of a left foot and was a tremendous high fielder of a ball. He'd been an all star in a different era if he was left in the forwards. His finest hour was undoubtedly 2013 ulster final when he gave a great display at full forward. Think he gave it everything in ulster club championship but wasn't to be the fairytale ending.

Kieran Hughes was our best Full Forward in decades and we rarely used him there. Won the Ulster Final in 2013 for us. No wonder Jim McGuinness couldn't understand him being played elsewhere ! Best of luck in retirement Kieran.

I think that wasn't his favourite position though. He was a player that was better with the play ahead of him. He didn't have the mentality to touch the ball 7/8 times a game I think, Scotstown used him well this year. It will be their gain

never mind all star, he had enough potential to pick up a footballer of the year but the stars never aligned. During Monaghan's best era in memory - he was needed as a jack of all trades and played the role well. He was too good and needed to plug gaps and never got the chance to excel in one role. Couple that with injuries and a modern system where he probably couldn't play with the "shackles off" all limited him i think.

2013 final was great of course but my favourite memory was a league game in Killarney in 2017 where he was plucking balls from the sky left, right and centre.

Hope he enjoys his retirement but also hope he changes his mind. lol

Kieran Hughes, what a player he was for Monaghan and his club still, hope he is happy with his retirement, not easy for these fellas to leave county football behind.

Few players out of position but what's a position in Gaelic football now a days?

Players not mentioned hopefully fit for championship or younger prospects are
Mc Manus
Jones
Mooney
Hamill
Could say Irwin and McElerney both hard workers but not up to inter county footballing standards

Why no Conor Boyle in line outs? He not on panel this year?

Lots of absences this year. Definitely feels like a new era. Supporters will have to be patient.

Our best chance to beat the Dubs and get two points on the board.

The dubs start slow and do not take the league seriously.
