Donegal giving me an experimental team, a run around at HT. It does flesh out who is up to and who isn't for the league.

Very poor performance yesterday against a quite strong Donegal team. A lot of regular faces on that Donegal team so it is obvious Jim is going for broke in all comps. He wants to get game time under his belt with a good strong team. Can't blame him maybe after a poor year for Donegal last year.

Monaghan on the other hand had a very young/new team out. Not many regulars were there (Lavelle, Mohan, McCarthy, O Hanlon, Lennon). Loughran, Sheridan, McElearney, McCarville, Mooney, Garland, Jason Irwin, McBennett all have very little experience at this level so lets give them time and see what comes of it,

Monaghan gifted them a few goals and we missed a few goal chances in the first half so we would be safer just parking yesterdays performance and looking forward to the league. Seemed awful difficult for the keeper to get kick outs away with led to forcing them resulting in turnovers and gifting Donegal possession. Monaghan seemed very vulnerable committing everyone forward against such a dangerous Donegal attack.

Get a few familiar faces back in (Duffy, Wylie, Ward, O Connell, Hughes, McCarron) it will shore the thing up. I am sure Vinny and co wont be too worried about yesterdays performance but they will be worried how the team react and spend the next few weeks preparing for Croke Park.

As for bringing it to Castleblayney what a joke. Why not Clones? Parking a mess, cold place to watch a game, cold/wet concrete seats for people who didn't get the seats. Anyone know why Inniskeen get none of these games anymore'??

I'd expect quote a few regulars to come back into the team. Assuming Jones (hamstring) and McAnespie (shoulder) will be out injured for the 1st league game. Assuming McManus, O'Connell D and K Hughes will get rested for the opening rounds of the league.

The manager gets to say where I think.

Whats everyones thoughts on Mcdonnell? From what I seen he was ok. but I'm a little disappointed Vinny didn't give anyone else a run. Even if he is the best man for the job, I can't help but think the clontibret manager should've shopped around a bit more.
maybe not a great look?

Can't understand how Conor Forde hasn't been pulled in, he's comfortable on the ball out the field and has brilliant kick outs and free taking. McDonnell has improved as a keeper in recent years but I don't think he is the one is Rory is gone for the whole year....

Hopefully I'll get to see some of the talent that you have coming through on Sunday. We played you in Castleblayney in the League 5 or 6 years ago, has it improved? Is see Karl Gallagher (of Donegal stock) is gone to Aussie Rules. Is he a big loss?"
Lads, if any of you know MonaghanMad, will you call in to see him and see if he's okay. He's back on the Donegal page again. He seems a wee bit unhinged this morning.

Castleblayney is a great pitch, but a poor venue, the stand is very far from the action.

Monaghan were very poor on the day, but I heard someone saying that they had heavy training on Saturday which might explain the heavy legs yesterday.

Forde was asked and made the decision to not play, from what I have heard. Can't believe people would question a man like Vinny Corey's integrity. I highly doubt he is showing bias to his clubmen for the sake of it. McDonnell has been the second best keeper in the county for the last 5 years, which is why he's playing. He's a good keeper and we need to get behind him, as he's going to be the most critiqued 'keeper in the country this year regardless of how well he plays, simply because is not Rory Beggan.

Nothing wrong with what he said. Think we had 5 players yesterday from the all Ireland semi last year..

Was at the game yesterday watching along with a few monaghan boys who reckon the goalie from Truagh and Kirk from Magheracloone who came on against us a few years back are both better options than McDonnell. Very poor but with the unforeseen donegal 15 man press anyone would struggle

Before the game he announced that Michael Langan, Jason McGee, Brendan McCole, Niall O'Donnell and Eoghan Ban are "bang average". Three of them have previously been All Star nominated in the last couple of years. They hardly qualify as being in the bang average category. If you have any "bang average" all star nominations, please be sure to let me know who they are so we can debate their merits. I haven't insulted yours, please don't insult ours.
