Has anyone any confirmation on our senior panel? New players in, retirees, walk aways etc?

I've heard a few walk aways I.e not of retiring age from both ends of the county.

Teams have been released for the games on Friday (7th) and Sunday (10th).
You could put a panel togther from that I suppose. On the Monaghan GAA webiste.
Some new(ish) faces.

Could anyone tell me the logic behind Rory Beggan playing tonight and again Sunday… and we wonder why we struggle to get a sub keeper to commit to holding tackle bags year in year out..

Likely for tKing frees as no one else seems to be stepping up. But your point is an excellent one.

What player in their right mind would want to train 4 nights a week for 8 months knowing they'll never be No.1 untill Beggan retires. Conor Forde made the right decision from walking away from County set up and by joining emyvale. As long as Rory is around there won't be another goalkeeper.

Surely some of the players on the panel are there to make up numbers.. Some struggling to get on club teams and a no16 named last night that is obviously a token gesture after a family christmas. Saying that there is a few nice additions the inniskeen lads and also the gallagher fella from emyvale.. On the sub gk issue it needs to be sorted.. If beggan gets an injury lights out

Beggan is a top class goal-keeper however that doesn't mean the Banty has to play him in every Mickey Mouse cup and all challenge games, it's all about developing a squad and competition for places..I don't know forde personally but it says a lot about his character and principles that he left both scotstown and the county set up.. he could have stayed with scotstown wining a bag full of b medals or go off and play senior football for another club which he did..he also could have walked around with a county bag over his shoulder thinking he was a county footballer but again he wasn't prepared to hold tackle bags year in year out..huge respect to the man..
As for no. 16 i can't say I'm 1 bit shocked which says a lot in itself…….

The Sub keeper is the most Banty thing you can imagine, he's a gas character.

Anyway, lot of new material last night, what was the verdict? Will be it the tried and trusted come Tyrone as per every year in league?

He's a character alright……..defo will be tried and trusted in the league.. didn't see any new material last night up front that will ease the scoring burden on likes of McManus..worrying enough last night, we still had 8/9 of our champ team playing and then had to bring in another 3/4 regulars to get us a result.. when you factor in that down had 3 regulars and 9 debutants starting against Donegal last night it hits home again how we constantly punch above our weight with a small pool to pick from.. I couldn't see monaghan being beat when I seen the team-sheets as Derry had a largely experimental team on show..Derry are the coming team in ulster over the next 5 years..

Beggan kept Monaghan in the game last night, believe it or not. Davy Garland needs plenty of minutes and a few scores to get settled. Woods and Mohan can be big additions if managed right.

On the sub keeper issue Ryan Farrelly was the sub keeper last year and as good as he is in that position I can only presume that Banty have realised his potential is on the edge of the square like he does for his club magheracloone. Looking forward to seeing him in action over the national league

Ryan Farrelly is not on the panel. If Beggan gets injured am assuming he is first player called in to play in between the posts. Only position he should be allowed play.

Nonsense. Against Derry we didn't have a single starter in forwards. Look at difference when Bannigan & Jack brought on !

Conor Leonard did very well at midfield today, Aaron Mulligan was good also.

I didn't say that we had a raft of starters up front.. what I said was we had 8/9 starters from last year namely - (Beggan, boyle, Wylie, Karl, dessie, lavelle, Kearns, hughes) and needed another 3/4 to come on namely (duffy, Brannigan, McCarron and mulligan) in order to get us the draw against what was a largely 2nd string Derry team hence why wel be going back to the tried and trusted every league game..some previous poster said that we had some good material up front on which which I didn't really see which would ease the scoring burden of the likes of McManus..only for Beggan's frees we would have being beat.. as for the goal keeping situation we are 1 serious injury away from a complete disaster which will end out season pretty much.. complete farce starting Beggan in both games over the weekend..
