Replying To countymonaghan:  "Harsh thing to say about any player who has been dogging it out in a cold Cloghan this last number of weeks/months.

Good McKenna cup campaign for Monaghan. Good game time into some legs. Good to see new faces. McNulty, Walker, Mooney.

McBennett been good in both games along with Mooney, Loughran, Lavelle and McDonnell in goals. Kicked a great point from play last night.
I see O Connell and D Hughes have signed up for another year. I believe Carey is gone due to traveling.

Any word on K Hughes, McManus, Boyle, Wylie?"
Think all are there as far as I know , hopefully anyway along with dessie ward

Donegal poster here. I came on here after a couple of Monaghan posters came onto the Donegal thread in the last few days with deluded notions. To my amusement it appears the majority on here think they are deluded as well.

Hopefully I'll get to see some of the talent that you have coming through on Sunday. We played you in Castleblayney in the League 5 or 6 years ago, has it improved? Is see Karl Gallagher (of Donegal stock) is gone to Aussie Rules. Is he a big loss?

Lads and lassies, can one of you come onto the Cavan forum and rescue veterngaa! We're being cringed to death by him. We're no world beaters but we've beaten you lads a few times recently, not that we're claiming superiority over your current squad. Though, it's making our ridiculing of this poster too easy. Anyway, in the words of Tom Smith, can one of your senior posters take him and offer a bit of guidance.

No parking facilities in Castleblaney. V dangerous along the main road. Fierce cold spot on a winters day.

FYI: There is a new carpark opened beside the church in Blayney now.. It's small enough.. 80 cars I think is what it holds..

Your like a 5 year old with that reply lol We could all pull in outsiders to guarantee success.. without the currin man scotstown wouldn't have got out of the county never mind an ulster final… that great scotstown team of the 80s who didn't have to pull in outsiders can sleep easy at night, their legacy isn't in danger with the current crop anyway…8 "county" players and zero ulster titles is a very poor return…

from what i can tell, new additions at mckenna cup stage rarely break into the championship team. I think intercounty footballers are on 2-4 year programs at senior stage before really excelling unless you're David Clifford.

Kevin loughran was a stand out player this time last year and then fell away after the league. He's been good this year too so hopefully can push on.

From my fairly agricultural POV, I think Mcbennett could be good, maybe not this year but he's a good size and looks capable.

I also hope Garland features later in the year too because he's very good

All in all, an ok Mckenna cup. presume the next game will be more about dusting cobwebs off more lads rather than blooding anyone else with league fast approaching.

Assume Duffy will be captaining us for another year. he's a good lad, just didn't hear it announced.

The issue is been very good at club but not taking your chance at county. McPhillips last year was good in the league but just didn't cut it for champ .. garland has had league chances before but you need to take them.

Good point on the 2 to 4 year cycle. I remember thinking both Brannigan and Dessie Ward hadn't a hope of making Division 1 county players when they first broke into the county team, but they've matured into established county players over the last few years.

I would not get to worked up on the McKenna cup, if you can come out of it with a few new lads who have put their hands up as viable options for the league/championship match day squads then its been a success. That does not mean they will even be subs or starters, just good enough for the panel. From what I have seen, only Mooney and maybe Hamill and Dara Treanor are at that level, but thats not too say they won't be ready in a year or two.

Of the lads on the fringes who were there before, I think Loughran, Garland and even McPhillips need to be getting a good run in the early stages of the League to see where they are at, hopefully they push on to become viable options for the championship. I also think Jason Irwin should be given a run as well. While he was a scoring forward underage, he seems to be playing more as a hard working forward at senior level, I thought he did a lot of good work under the radar helping his defence in both games. He is not afraid of getting stuck in and has the engine to get up and down. If Carey is away then theres an opening for that type of player on the panel.

I would definitely stick with McBennet and WIlson from Aughnamullen as there big strong lads. To be competitive at Division 1 and in the later stage of the championship you do need physicality and as a county we don't usually produce big footballers any lads that show potential should be worked on, especially since we have lost Kearns and the Hughes who provide that physicality won't be around for ever.

Any word on Dessie Ward? I thought he was really hampered by his shoulder in the later stages of last years championship. Is he back or is he still injured?

O Connell back for another year I see along with presumably the other elder lemons. Doubt any are returning to sit on bench. Great servants no doubt but we will hopefully see a few of the younger lads push them hard for starting spots. Wouldn't worry about league it's the summer that will count.

The Monaghan All-Ireland final is normally the last day of the league with wild celebrations and pitch invasions.
