I think it is imperative we stay in Division 1 football!
The higher the standard of Division we are playing in the better for our standard of player.
There will come a time when we are destined to Division 2 but with the retirements of Darren Hughes, Mc Manus, KO'C, Kieran Hughes looming at the end of the 2024 season and the potential loss of Rory to the NFL.
I think its massive for our players to be playing in Div.1 football for the profile and allure it has to stop player drop off at County Level.
These guys are playing for the profile of Division 1 football and id argue a lot would quit if playing Div.2/3.

I'd say if you asked any of the current players they got massive thrills from avoiding relegation to division 2 and count staying in Div.1 as a serious achievement every year!

Some success's can be seen away from medals and these made for serious sporting spectacles as a supporter.

Good performance by monaghan tonight. Keeper I thought done very well. Stephen mooney is a serious player what a future he has also David garland was excellent. Great to see some new faces getting a chance tonight.

As much as I agree division 1 is where you need to be, since 2015 we've struggled come championship . Look at donegal Tyrone both relegated but won ulster the same year. I want to stay in division 1 but look if we go down I don't think it's that big of a deal the the team is good enough to bounce back.

Great to see Garland and Mooney having massive impacts on the game tonight, proper scoring forwards who we need to see more of throughout the year

That's all when and good but what's your plan v a team that brings all 15 back and attack with all 15 like Derry last year

Overall an okay performance from Monaghan. Good to see Corey giving nearly everyone on the match day squad a run.

Positives - Sean Jones was very lively in the first half.
Loughran put in a very solid shift throughout the game
Mooney and Garland have that star quality that wins games, not afraid to have a go from tricky angles/distances and deliver.
Thought Doohamlet's McBennett was good in the second half.
Treanor, McPhillips and McElerney were decent too.
Lavelle was excellent.

Negatives
I thought Francie Hughes struggled to make an impact. Same with Joel Wilson.
I hope McAnespie's injury isn't too bad. He's not the sort to lie down but it did look like he hurt the shoulder badly.
Irwin got the whole hour and didn't stand out.
Woods struggled to make an impact. Expected a lot more from him.

Bring the scoring forwards off the bench when the game opens up towards the end

Paudie McMahon be a great man to bring off the bench when the game is the melting pot pace to burn and an eye for goal when defenders legs are tiring

Any word on Bannigan and McAnespie injuries?
Good to see Mooney, Garland and Woods involved last night.

Good to see a few men back and surprising to see a few men stay on. We have to proceed with extreme caution with Mooney, he has plenty of time to develop and not to throw him at the deep end like what happened mulligan. Hopefully Mc philiphs, Loughran, Mc Elerney, Jones and woods can really push for places on the team.

Still would have doubts about Mooney wouldn't rush him in too much. He did very well but it's Antrim in a McKenna cup match at the end of the day. He is very much a future prospect but imagine he would struggle against a division one team

Mooney looks the part but agree no rush on him. I remember barry mcginn impressing in mckenna cup years back and mulligan also. Garland still featuring which is good to see. Hopefully Jones can push on this year avoid injuries and be a regular on the team. Always thought wed be fine in forwards and backs its the midfield we need to find players for.

How old is Davy Garland? He looked very sharp last week against Antrim. Turned the game with his movement, frees and scores from play.

Guessing around 24/25. quality baller and something that bit different with the left foot, would be great if he can finally make the breakthrough, been outstanding for Donaghmoyne for a long time.

Garland was outstanding for UCD last year in the Sigerson against quality opposition as a corner forward. Hard to understand how he did not make it on to the Monaghan panel.
Someone mentioned to me that he might have played in the half back line (out of position) for Monaghan a few years ago. Not sure if that is true?

He had stiff competition in that forward line and he failed to make an impact when previously in the panel. Monaghan are a Division 1 outfit that got to an All Ireland semi-final, unfortunately a Sigerson Cup run doesn't guarantee you a place in the panel.

He definitely had some chances under Banty but never really consolidated his place on the team despite excellent Sigerson form. It will be interesting to see what this year brings for him.
