Why? Did they beat a team of note? Sligo didn't even field a team in the Connacht championship last year. They might as well have been playing Kilkenny footballers.

Agreed, Donegal and Kerry hammered Clare/Down and Clare and Down are a good bit stronger than Sligo and Mayo played in D2 in the league so I dont really see how they can be in the top 3 to be honest.

Time will tell but I very much doubt this Mayo team will do anything this year.

Cavan at 13 after getting relegated to div 4?

Breaking it up into teirs:

Teir 1:

Dublin

No one is even close to them right now. Their B team could beat all but 2 or 3 counties.

Teir 2:

Mayo and kerry.

Impossible to split these right now as they haven't played in a neutral venue in the championship since 2017. And both have had comparable recent success.

Teir 3:

Donegal, and Tyrone.

Teir 4:

Armagh, Monaghan, and galway.

Teir 5:

Roscommon, kildare, cork, and meath.

Does anyone really care it you are rated between 6 or 13. Dublin on top and way ahead of the rest. Game is dead.

I actually think Mayo are being underrated and I can't work out why based on championship form.

Donegal nor Tyrone have not done anything to suggest they are better than Mayo since 2012 including recent years, and to be honest Kerry haven't really either since 2014. Mayo in 2020 were as good against the Dubs as Kerry in 2019. Remember the Dublin Kerry Drawn game, the dubs played most of the game with 14.

If it came down to it as a straight knockout, everything on the line championship game i'd fancy Mayo against Donegal or Tyrone for sure and it would be 50/50 against Kerry.

Cillian O'Connor is a huge loss, but Donegal are likely to be missing Murphy, Kerry possibly Clifford for games etc. Injuries will happen for all teams.

The only stand out team is Dublin and nothing has changed.

"Game is dead" says the Meath man. Yes Meath man, the game is in serious trouble in county Meath. You are pathetic at Gaelic football.

Mayo on a higher tier than Donegal and Tyrone haha. Now that is comical!

Does it really matter when Kildare won't win a game in the League next year and Dublin will beat ye by 20 + points if ye manage to even play them.

We are precisely as pathetic at football as Galway I think. Same division as ye next year? What was the score in the league this year v Kerry and last year v Mayo but sure you seem happy where you are!

This is typical Meath whinging. Meath will not win, they will get hockeyed. Not Kildare. Kildare at least try and go out and compete. Meath just sit on the sidelines imho and whinge and moan.

I don't think it'll be 20+ and I think we could grab a win or two next year, being honest. Look my reply was obviously just poking fun and not to be taken too seriously. I completely believe the whole system needs an overhaul and any attempt at rankings based on championship form, needs to take seriously into account the fact that Leinster teams have nothing to play for. Overhaul needed.

They 100% are at the moment.

Donegal and Tyrone have done nothing, absolutely nothing to suggest otherwise to date for a long long time.

In 2019 which was the most recent full season Mayo won the league and got to an all ireland semi final, comfortably beating Donegal in a straight knockout championship game along the way.

In 2020 Mayo got to the all ireland final, Donegal and Tyrone on the other hand......

if you go back to the years prior to this Mayo were miles ahead of them both.

I can't work out on what basis Donegal or Tyrone (even Kerry it could be argued) deserve to be ahead of Mayo currently.

The only thing is the injury of Cillian O'Connor, which is a huge loss, but Donegal will suffer without Murphy also.

I can't see Kildare beating anyone to be honest

Slightly more pathetic I would say.
Meath haven't featured at underage level in decades. Galway have.
Meath clubs don't even win anything at provincial level.
Galway clubs have at national level.

This thread is about rankings of the senior teams is it not? Meath are beginning to make progress at underage but for Meath or Galway, it counts for little if it does not translate to senior. Corofin have been an excellent team but again its not transferring to intercounty. Club football in Meath is and always was quite strong but traditionally never used to excel on the national stage. To me there is little to separate Meath, Galway, Kildare, Cork, Roscommon, Monaghan, Armagh. They are all certainly much closer to each other than to Dublin or Kerry.
