That many of the 'colour' commentators are crap doesnt mean they shouldnt be there"
What is a colour commentator? Innovation isn't adding +1 and doing it badly.

Irish presenter Rachel Wyse has announced her decision to step down from her Sky Sports GAA role after six years.

Just wondering is it a sign that sky are going to pull the plug on it's interest in gaelic games, if sky is staying put who is most likely to replace her, her replacement would have to home grown like herself, unlike RTE will the position be advertised and open to both male and female, or does it really matter, perhaps not.

They add to the main commentator who's main focus will be calling the action play by play
They add stats, info, background info, useful tidbits often during break in play or when the main commentator isnt in action

She had a kid last year I think, her husband is minted, so I would say she's not bothered trundling from her Surrey (or wherever) mansion to Tullamore or Cork on a Saturday evening.

I sat down for 3 football games on tele this weekend; Mayo vs Sligo (lasted 25 minutes), Kerry vs Clare (lasted one half) and Wicklow vs Wexford (whole game). Out of the three guess which one I found most interesting?

I can't for the life of me figure out why we only have the option of watching one-sided hammerings in the preliminary rounds on the television. We have the whole summer to watch and talk about Kerry, Mayo and Donegal. We've gotten to see the majority of their league campaigns on tv as well.

Both the Wexford vs Wicklow and Louth vs Offaly matches were close, intense championship matches. For one or two weekends could we not just get the chance to watch them with an actual broadcaster, real analysis and more than one camera angle.

Are the "experts" we get on panels too lazy to bother to research teams outside of division one. How many people actually sat through any of the three broadcasted games this weekend from start to finish.

In what's supposed to be an amateur and equal association, why can't kids from Louth or Wicklow get to see their county play on RTÉ? Why do Sligo have to be subjected to having an absolute hammering being analysed and patronised live television. It really does my head in.

How many sports have even coverage of teams games on tv?
The stronger teams will always be shown more?
Change format and then you may get the weaker sides on tv more but it will always be far less than your Dublins Kerrys etc

The best match I saw in any sport this year so far has been the Galway V Monaghan relegation play off. Gripping stuff on TG4. It went into extra time. Galway V Limerick in the hurling was not far behind.

I don't think you can compare GAA with professional sports as there is supposed to be a different type of attitude towards equality of games promotion OJ every county. Do we want to end up with the likes of a "big 6" like there is in soccer.

Also there are examples of sporting bodies including an agreement to show lower competitions as part of tv rights. BT show the English Rugby Championship and the national league, I doubt there's much advertising revenue being made there.

If there is a second tier competition why would they be more likely to show those matches when they don't even show them in the first tier as it is?

You are right.

Nobody showed Wicklow vs Cavan last week.

What evidence is there that RTÉ will show a lower tier competition? How many Christy Ring matches have you seen on RTÉ recently?

And regarding BT...

I don't mind Joanne to be fair, think women presenters get much much worse flak than their male counterparts

The games badly need some crowds to make more of an atmosphere. Pity the Govt will not relax the rules a bit. They seem imho to bend over backwards for Rugby in particular.

Replying To daytona11:  "Where did the money come from for that though?

It certainly didn't come from running Parenll Park.

Gilroy and those lads can pat themselves on the back for their percieved commercial success but that wouldn't have been possible without a huge leg up from central GAA and Sean Kelly at the time in order to buy those structures.

All the rest of us want is a fair and level playing field. Gilroy can sneer at other county boards all he wants but given the same treatment the Dubs are we could make a success of it ourselves.

You have to spend money to make money and at the moment the 3rd world counties like Meath and Kildare don't have that luxury."
Well Kildare blew millions on Hawkfield, twice bailed out by HQ. They should have invested in the game no excuses, but I suspect most GAA fans sufferbfrom amnesia.

Watched the Waterford/Clare game and commentary drove me round the bloody twist..the number of times he mentioned diarmaid mc Mahon as clare number 5,he retired about 15 years ago..he got Bennett's wrong on numerous occasions to..also thought Michael duignan had one of his very bad games due to trying to keep an eye on the Offaly football match...it's got to the stage now where I turn sound down and just watch with no sound..

Wouldve been better to spend some of that money on some fulltime coaches for schools and GPOs. Kildare have a massive population and while theyve had recent underage success they could've been producing more players than they have.
