Given the entertainment value this Mayo side have given through this decade i'm delighted they've made it back to Croke Park in 2019. Moreover, it will soon end for many veterans on this Mayo team and that last chance has arrived and they deserve to see it all end in Croke Park. Regrets they'll have a few but they did it their way and Mayo really have been very good entertainers just not great enough to win an All Ireland. There's no coulda, woulda, shoulda on the roll of honour just winners. Kingdomson (Kerry) - Posts: 244 - 05/08/2019 23:12:08 2221380 Link 0 |

I don't think you could ask for bigger motivation for this mayo side than knowing they are the team to stop the drive for 5. Both teams have a lot to play for. The pressure of it not being a final should make it all the more interesting.

We didn't need to beat Kerry in the Super 8s. We were bullied that day and by the Rossies so hopefully we learned those harsh lessons. We did beat Donegal, not on another day but last Saturday. Maybe you don't have the Shky? Fair point on Andy though. Our other forwards need to step up big time else the drive for five will be one game from history on September 1st.

Because of playing well against Donegal it will be hard for Mayo as they are not coming in under the radar now. I really hope Mayo are still capable of really putting it up to Dublin like they did in finals a few years ago as after last year's stroll we really need someone to put it up to Dublin this year. I wonder how the Dublin panel have reacted to the return of Connelly, maybe this will cause a bit of unrest. It seems a strange decision to bring him back at this time when things are going well. bdbuddah (Meath) - Posts: 1416 - 06/08/2019 00:23:22 2221402 Link 0 |

I know your only joking but this is actually a possibility. Scary thought. If Dublin go in leading at half time and bang in an early second half goal I can see them walking over mayo in the last 15. For Mayo to have a chance I feel they'll need to be leading at that stage.

Not certain, but think it was on the GAA Hour, they reckon Connolly should be Dublin's first sub, that other forwards didn't put their hands up enough to be pushing for places after the Tyrone game. A mighty sub to have. Class should outweigh intercounty matchfitness every time.

The motivation for these Mayo players isn't about stopping the 5 in row but actually winning an all Ireland themselves

An hour long queue on tickets and ticketmaster has only very high seats left. Demand looks to be huge

Just a word on Andy Moran, what a player. He has a calmness about him when all others are in panic mode. Could he actually start this game? Mayo need him on the pitch for as long as possible. They could start him, sub him and then take him back on again, like Peter Canavan backin the day. Green_Gold (Donegal) - Posts: 1951 - 06/08/2019 10:31:26 2221475 Link 0 |

Lads if Connolly comes on against Mayo it will mean Mayo are in the game and Gavin is hoping for some magic. The Dublin bench is not what it used to be. The last day I thought Andrews did very well as a ball winner but McMenamin looks a shadow of what he once was. Same for O Gara. TheFlaker (Mayo) - Posts: 8929 - 06/08/2019 10:51:52 2221488 Link 4 |

I have a tickets.ie account and could have bought up to 8 tickets. How the f#×* is that not printing money for touts and their shady owners?

The ticket distribution system is an absolute shambles. Half the people online and walking into SuperValu are not even members of their local club. TheFlaker (Mayo) - Posts: 8929 - 06/08/2019 11:24:45 2221508 Link 3 |

Not sure I'd entirely agree re Connolly. If things were going well then why not bring him on and get another ten mins into him before the final in case he is needed as a game changer then? I think at the moment the pecking order of forward subs is Costello followed closely by Small who are then followed by any of McManamon/Andrews/Connolly and Bugler has put himself into the shake up after his performance on Sunday. I don't think Berno or O'Gara will see any more game time this year and along with Kev Mc I feel all three look a shadow of their former selves. However if we need to close a game out I would still trust them to do a job. In addition to these lads we could also have (depending on starting 15 and where McCarthy plays) any of MDMA, O'Sullivan, McMahon/Byrne on the bench on the day also so I think the bench will be in a pretty healthy state but agreed it's not as formidable as years gone by.

I was at the game and he's a joy to watch. His reading of the game is top notch. He has to start, no disrespect to Coen but he's to slow and predictable. His 1st thought is to shoot and any decent defender can easily close him down.

I was focusing on the forward line more so. Costello first man in for sure.
