1642953 have to say its a disgrace the little time rte are giving to saturdays replay all ireland semi final
the match throws in at 5pm
yet they are only coming on the tv 20 minutes before throw in.
this is an all ireland semi final and they are basically going to show the teams come out and parade and anthem and then its on.
contrast this with the rugby matches that are on and they come on tv an hour before them games kick off to talk [/I]

But what do you want listening to a load of oul guff from those so called 'experts' for?!!

I wouldn't go as far as to say it is a 'disgrace'. They are showing something that is/was unscheduled. I imagine if you tune into Radio Kerry or a station in Mayo, RnaG, the Kerryman newspaper you will get wall to wall coverage. Seo Sport on TG4 will give it plenty of coverage on TV. Sky Sports are covering it.

yeah but the point is they come on an hour before and sometimes even more than an hour before six nations matches
this is an all ireland semi final and all they will show is the warm up and parade
the contrast is completly imbalanced

hill sky provide coverage starting at 4.30..showing our games a bit more respect than rte dont you think?

well the point was regards their coverage of other sports which they always come on an hour before hand to take in the build up

yes well hill it should hardly suprise you...rte have no respect for our games...hence why i feel the sky deal has been a good thing..an alternative is needed

So giving live coverage of the match on tv and radio , plus a full preview show the night before and a highlights show the day after, isn't enough and shows rte are biased against GAA. Only in Ireland!

they do that for the rugby and soccer and come on an hour before the match to show the build up
plus all week give updates on their matches on the six one news.
they came on air more than 20 minutes before last weekends game why the change?

skys coverage has been poor though
the whole standing at a screen and showing a scorecard malarky makes it look like american football not gaelic games
for me it would confuse me if i didnt know anything about the gaa its plastic is the best way of describing it
and it seems judging by the reaction in the uk that is what has happened they cant make out whats happening.
they have however dedicated a fair proportion of time to covering the sport i would give them that
their viewing figures has been poor though and it would take a huge sea change to see them rise significantly
as they had exclusive coverage to both football quarter finals and only pulled in 50 thousand viewers
that wasnt even their highest ratings so the arguement that they havent had exclusive rights to big games
wont hold up after that figures as that was a big double header for them.
i dont see them continuing after the three years deal is up,unless they get far more of the games than rte.
which leaves the gaa now in a hard place.
tv3 wont want to go near them after what went on this year
so rte will have very little competition
maybe by then gaa tv station would be best way to go

i would have to disagree..them viewing figures are only based on figures in ireland and only on 1 type of medium..for instance i dont count as a viewer for sky due to watching it on hd and i imagine a lot more viewers apply..i think the coverage has been decent so far and i would expect it to improve next year..my main complaint from last week would be that they kept showing replays but the game was too fast for them to keep up so they missed a fair few kickouts as the game moved so fast..there is no point comparing viewership with a free channel like rte and a subscription channel like sky as way more people have access to rte..same applies with bbc and sky...i would stay away from tv3..at least sky are a legitimate channel which have treated our games with decent respect so far which i would expect to improve....i am tired of pundits arguing non stop amongst themselves and making snide comments at each other which consistently happens on rte in relation to the football coverage...sky far from perfect but decent 1st season i feel with expected improvement

you could say the same with all the viewing figures though
they dont count rte hd viewers either or online viewers
im not trying to compare them to rte anyway as obviously rte will have more thats not the point i was making
it was about sky itself that they wouldnt be happy with that little numbers
and in the uk they were getting only 10 thousand viewers on average which is very low for a big station like them
thats why i reckon they wont see any profit or reason to continue showing gaa if it continues that way.
the only way they will improve them numbers would be to have the majority of game live that rte currently shows
and i cannot see that happening now after the outrage that went on in the first place.

everybody has hd pretty much rte wise do they not now though due to saorview and all that no?..once they get the subscribers im sure they will be happy enough..sky generally dont release viewing figures anyway when it comes to their premier league games so viewership matters little to them compared to subscribers

How long should they be going on screen before the game?
This is a replay and not a normal game. This game only came into being in a very short timeframe. The programme will never be same as a long scheduled programme. 6 Nations programme also covers 3 games and is very different. Their is also a Friday programme which will preview the games

That's what happens in our school Ormond. I find the figures quoted for Fiji in particular to be highly questionable. I am sceptical of the figures in general.
Why are you so sceptical of the figures for Fiji? National sport and rugby is monstrous in Fijian culture etc
27/08/2014 14:16:25 hill16no1man
and they have a full show the friday night previewing the rugby matches too
for an all ireland semi final it shows a lack of respect
Lack of respect? Come off it. There isnt many preview shows on a Friday night for rugby. When are all these preview shows on a Friday night for rugby?

6 Nations are scheduled well in advance. Dates, times scheduled 2-3 years in advance. This is a replay and coverage requires a change to what was meant to be scheduled. You cant compare coverage of a replay of all Ireland semi to a 6 nations game

they don't always come on an hour before hand. There often has been pro12 games that have kicked off at 7.05 or 7.15 and rte have only come on air at 7pm. they do it to all sports

yeah but in trms of gaa id say they must take note of viewers as its a new venture
and if they are not getting the viewers it wouldnt be profitbale in terms of sponsorship and advertising for them
so they would more than likely not look for to renew a contract again

your hardly comparing an all ireland semin final to a pro12 mickey mouse game
i ment six nations as thats there main rugby games
and they always come on an hour before ireland play
they have that against the head programme during the week forgive me if its not always friday you know what i ment

they can easily change things around
for example when something happens in the dail
do they only come on for a few mins not at all
they cut out whatever programme is on at that time and go straight to it
rte2 on a saturday at 4pm what does be on exactly like a cartoon or animated film
maybe a rerun of murder she wrote hardly going to be a massive loss to viewers

i looked it up there and its even worse than i thaught
a double bill of malibu country
yes i didnt even know what that was so i googled it
its an american sitcom that ran for one year
an hour of reruns of that takes pride of place to the build up to the all ireland semi final

It's a replay , things are already scheduled. Even the GAA have other things scheded and that's why the game is being played in the Gaelic Grounds. Or perhaps the GAA are biased against the GAA too!!!!

158,000 players out of a population of 858,000 whilst New Zealand has a playing population of 149,900 out of a population of 4.5 million. That's why I am sceptical Ormond.

two reruns of an american sitcom that only lasted 1 year in production
come on man would you
surely they could have shown the first episode
and then scrapped the second one starting at 4.15 and went over to the gaelic grounds for a 45 minute build up
that way you still have your episode of the sitcom for anybody who actually stayed home purposely to watch it
