What kind of crowd do people feel the GAA need on Saturday to come to the conclusion that this is tripe? I did not even turn it on Saturday being honest or have not been tempted to check youtube or TG4.tv realplayer for clips. What was the attendance? Was anybody at it from this forum? Did anybody meet anybody that travelled far for it? From a Munster or South Leinster county for example..

Benny what about Shinty - Hurling? Do you think that would ever attract, or will get big Crowds? The Irish team has to play a weak team every year to give the Series a level playing field, as the game isn't taken Serious in Scotland.

oh God I was there - About 20,000 in Breffni - no dis respect to Cavan GAA, they did a brilliant job with hosting the game. The stadium looked amazing but my god did the game lack athmosphere. I was ready to go home at half time. Stop start, bad play, over hyped over rated dribble. It was like being at a soccer match. i certainly wont be going to Croke park for the return game. The Meath final on Sunday was better entertainment and I'm not be biased here. Time to end this series. Please !!!!!!

No. I have no interest in that either. However, it is 100 times better than the football equivalent for one simple reason; my GAA ethos is club is always first. This shinty thing does not really affect club matches as anybody that is involved in this team doesn't really have major club commitments, hence it is therefore a bit of harmless fun and doesn't really interfere with scheduling of club matches. I have no interest in it but sure let them off.

However, I have a major gripe with the aussie rules rubbish as the Cork county senior and intermediate hurling finals were deferred by one week so that Aidan Walsh and Ciaran Sheehan could take part in a dead rubber game in a sport that is alien to him in front of a muted, 1/4 full stadium in a competition that has no significant meaning. I am extremely annoyed that 4 clubs and all of their supporters have to wait for their big day out so that this nonsense can take place first. I am extremely annoyed that these clubs have to wait an extra week despite being their expressed view that the games should take place this Sunday including Ciaran Sheehan (Eire Og) and Aidan Walsh (Kanturk) clubs both vociferously wishing to play next Sunday. I am extremely annoyed that the Cork County board executive cancelled those games in a show of solidarity with suits in Croke Park and going against the wishes of its own members.

Not only has this event lost all entertainment value, it is having a truly negative effect on the association. Good riddance when it is gone.

Not having a go, Benny, but is this the way the CCB have been operating? I'm referring of course to the proposed NHL revamp with would've put Cork back in Div 1A.

It would be better to puncture the ball and the series. Agree with bennybunny, it is an absolute disgrace. I've watched this excuse of a game go from thuggery to thuggery and when our lads were getting the lard knocked out of them the GAA started crying about discipline. Now it is the exact opposite, you'd get more physicality in basketball. Its a beano for the players and for that I fully agree with them being looked after and couldn't deny them a trip, but if they are to attempt to continue with this farce, the manager of the Irish team must be instructed not to include any players still involved in club championship games!

Yes, the executive at least. Look at the names and it is the same fellas that are around for years playing musical chairs, one fella gets PRO, then becomes vice chairman and then chairman and when it is time to go after your 10 or so years, you will be come Munster council delegate or something which ensures that you are 'lifer'. Then obviously if you become president of the association it becomes tricky to get you back in the loop as you can't be president one day and a 'lowly' council delegate the next day - that's when they advertise a new full-time GAA development post..disgusting stuff.

DeRoyals I feel your pain. I was in Limerick a few years ago for that TRIPEFEST. It had the makings of a great night, game under lights, good good and good craic in the build up outside the stadium. But unfortunately then the game started. All that was missing was the announcer to roar "haha we fooled you".

Players of course are for it as they get a trip down under every few years. There is plenty of other sports to watch a team representing ireland

Bit of a farce out there in Crocker, player gone off with shocking head injury. Someone is going to get hurt playing this nonsense.

The score is wrong on tg4 as look again when it was 16 v 5 Ireland kicked a ball over the bar and the umpire gave the signal for 3 points yet the scoreboard went 17 instead of 19 .
Also can anybody tell me why Paul Flynn when pulled as he went to kick a goal then went out for what should of been a one point yet umpire signalled wide altogether?

the farce of a punch up at the start was all manufactured to try and maintain this stupid excuse for a game...pathetic first quarter...it's time to stop this pathetic game now

This is awful...

As someome who would like such a series to remain. I think half the game to be played with the oval ball. Say every second quarter. Give it a fairer approach and more bite to see if the irish can outscore the Australians with the oval ball...

Its so one sided its farcical

Pure utter rubbish.

I understand the players interest given it's a trip to Aus and mixing with the best players.
But man it's awful.

Its a joke as a contest, the rules are weighed in our favour and the aussies send out a reserve team of aboriginies. Play half with their ball and half with our ball and it might make it interesting, probably not though.

The rules being tilted in our favour doesn't explain the margin of victory. The Irish are out fighting and out thinking the Aussies to a serious extent, and that has nothing to do with the shape of the ball.
It seems to me that the Aussies lost interest in the whole thing once the violence was taken out of it.
