International Rules

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

This is on next month. What are people's views on this concept? Aussies have picked an all indigenous side. Also does anyone know where i can watch international rules matches of the past. I know Tg4 are showing matches of years gone by but there only highlights.

We should pick an indigenous side as well they wouldn't be expecting that ;-) and I like the old combined rules and I actually went to see it in Croker a few years back.

Can't understand why they continue with this series, neither country has any interest. Between county and club don't lads have a long enough year.

If paul earley is looking for the toughest, hardest men in Ireland, we all know where he will find them. Boyler is as tough as any man ever to come from the Davitts club and they're legendary: most of them pull their own teeth.

Just send the Rathnew team out, now that's indigenous :D

Only good thing to ever come out of this were the fights (which were completly out of order obviously). Waste of time, but at least it's better than the hurling/shinty combo. Just looks like a junior c match on a good pitch.

The whole thing is a bit strange to say the least. The series itself is ok sometimes, its good to mix it up with these pro athletes sometimes. This year however with the indigenous only team is weird. Its probably some affirmative action type nonsense from the AFL,but its misguided and is the wrong way forward for this series.

What it is, is confirmation from the Aussies that they don't give two ****** about the series and I don't blame them. Time to bury this rubbish!

I think it's better for the Irish lads than the Australians. Irish lads get to represent their country plus there is the additional benefit of a junket down under every 4 years.

About time they scrapped this series, its just putting additional pressure on already overworked county players. Obviously it is a money spinner or else Croke Park would have no interest. They talk so much about the grassroots and yet they expect people to fork out to watch a hybrid game full of thuggery. October should be for club games and November and December should be the off season. As for some of the hard men mentioned earlier, I wonder :-)

Went a few years ago. Awful rubbish - the day they tried to decapitate Geraghty. Harte is right; should be scrapped and more effort put into promoting gaelic football abroad.

Given that neither country has any interest as one poster put it, isn't is strange that the game in Breffni is selling out?

someone must like this series?

I was at them a few years back in Croke when the wee Jack Russell came on to the field and was the best player for 15 mins. I won't lie, I went for the fights and aggro as did many of my Northern friends. Wee Aussie called Jason Akramanis, good player but dirty wee so and so, spent the entire time winding up Peter Canavan.

Peter the Great showed what a tough little man he was as well as being a brilliant player, gave that thick a good ol punch in the face before it was all over, and I actually think the Aussie respected that!

I remember going to Pearce Stadium to watch it. Salthill was buzzing! It was as if the occasion got to the place though. There were half dozen streaks/ pitch invasions and not a single ball was returned from the crowd!

Vaguely remember one of the Ozzies being arrested in town later that night?

Lookin forward to the International rules as usual. The only time our country gets to play together as one nation. Can anyone explain what the ,"indigenous" means? All Aboriginal, or all born in Australia? Anyone?
