I don't know if it's that massive a rebuild, Cian Molloy, Conor Foley, Eoin Ryan, Cian Byrne, and Richie Lawlor all have some decent enough experience built up and are still young players, probably will be easier to blood in the likes of CBD, Darragh Carley, Jack Redmond, Simon Roche, Eoin Whelan, Cillian Byrne, and Seán Rowley in 1B as well. Chin would be a monumental loss but out of the other hurlers who are going to 28+ at some point this year, I'd say Jippo, Mac, and Shane Reck are the ones who would hurt a bit; have to remember that we've been without Jippo and Mac for the most part of the last two years so we already know what it's like to hurl without them 9 years ago, Dublin hopped off us in a Leinster QF at Croker and we then gave Waterford no sort of game in the AIQF, this was a year after getting annihilated by Kilkenny in a Leinster SF the year before and not being particularly competitive against Cork at home in the qualifiers. That team against Dublin was Conor O'Leary-Jippo-MO'H-Eoin Moore-Dee-Paudie Foley-Jacko-Harry Kehoe-Eoin Conroy-Andrew Kenny-Paul Morris-David Dunne-Liam Óg-Mac-Podge Doran. A very similar team the following year then beat KK in a Leinster SF and were much more competitive in the All-Ireland QF against Waterford. Turnarounds can happen with young teams from one year to the next, no guarantee that we do it but as Dublin have showed this year, a lot can change with a different manager even if the team is the same or arguably slightly worse ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 498 - 11/05/2025 15:20:36 2608433 Link 0 |

Too busy playing cards with the kids right now. I've opinions so I express them. I'm not saying I'm always right, the whole point to forums like this is to put ideas out there for debate. And/or have a bit of craic! Feel free to disagree with anything I post. And better again tell me why I'm wrong. I'll learn more and I won't get offended!

We need to get the best coaches in the county involved with county teams. Hard to do at the minute.

I think Joe Barrett is a bit older, 26/27. Don't forget Michael Dundon too. I don't know if playing with an unfashionable hurling club tells against him but he's def worth a look at.

Yeah but they don't have to worry about football plus you could argue this has been their worst era in a long while, must be a long time since they went the guts of a decade without winning an All-Ireland

Had it in my head that Joe Barrett was wing-back on that U20 team in 2022 Don't think he will commit anyway so his age doesn't really matter ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 498 - 11/05/2025 19:34:40 2608538 Link 0 |
Joe Barrett played in the u20 Leinster Final loss to Kilkenny in 2022. He's around the same age as Patsy. If he's not already he will be 23 sometime this year. He got asked to join the panel this year.

Limerick were the 1st county to bring in the development squad system. Can't say it has worked out too badly for them...

dont think its all about winning minors...limerick havnt won a minor all ireland since 1984. we have some outstanding players but in my opinion paul kinnerk iis the key. munsterchamps (Limerick) - Posts: 1140 - 11/05/2025 20:15:25 2608557 Link 0 |
Tbf though, development squads have been around for a while now and Limerick would've had a good few development squads before they struck gold with the 1994s/1995s/1996s

The systems they have currently was introduced after they had a root and branch review of their hurling after the AI defeat in 2007.

I agree with you 100%. He has taken the game to a total different level in terms of strategy and intensity. I wouldn't overlook the contribution of Caroline Currid either. I was watching the Harriers seniors doing a drill in about 3sqm pitch and every time a ball went dead a new one went in. It's straight out of the Kinnerk Bible and you wouldn't have seen a county team at that level of intensity two decades ago nevermind a middle of the road club team. We have to speed up our hurling at every level Doyler. You are better than a middle of the road club team!!!
