Replying To Doylerwex:  "I agree the 2010 stuff is a bit dramatic but this slip feels the same.

Our starting point to a massive rebuild is just a bit better.

I am still absolutely devastated to be honest.

I do feel better after being out hurling this morning's though.

Some brilliant young lads of 7-10 on show. It's up to us to keep them hurling as much as possible."
I don't know if it's that massive a rebuild, Cian Molloy, Conor Foley, Eoin Ryan, Cian Byrne, and Richie Lawlor all have some decent enough experience built up and are still young players, probably will be easier to blood in the likes of CBD, Darragh Carley, Jack Redmond, Simon Roche, Eoin Whelan, Cillian Byrne, and Seán Rowley in 1B as well. Chin would be a monumental loss but out of the other hurlers who are going to 28+ at some point this year, I'd say Jippo, Mac, and Shane Reck are the ones who would hurt a bit; have to remember that we've been without Jippo and Mac for the most part of the last two years so we already know what it's like to hurl without them

9 years ago, Dublin hopped off us in a Leinster QF at Croker and we then gave Waterford no sort of game in the AIQF, this was a year after getting annihilated by Kilkenny in a Leinster SF the year before and not being particularly competitive against Cork at home in the qualifiers. That team against Dublin was Conor O'Leary-Jippo-MO'H-Eoin Moore-Dee-Paudie Foley-Jacko-Harry Kehoe-Eoin Conroy-Andrew Kenny-Paul Morris-David Dunne-Liam Óg-Mac-Podge Doran. A very similar team the following year then beat KK in a Leinster SF and were much more competitive in the All-Ireland QF against Waterford. Turnarounds can happen with young teams from one year to the next, no guarantee that we do it but as Dublin have showed this year, a lot can change with a different manager even if the team is the same or arguably slightly worse

That's a bit unfair don't you think. Can't you hurl with lads around your own age?"
Very good:)

We didn't man mark Mannion because this management team mark space and then get cut open."
No. Read the post again.

He knows everything about inter county hurling from top to bottom
Also has savage knowledge of the club scene
Maybe he wouldn't have time as he's very busy on the hoganstand"
Too busy playing cards with the kids right now. I've opinions so I express them. I'm not saying I'm always right, the whole point to forums like this is to put ideas out there for debate. And/or have a bit of craic! Feel free to disagree with anything I post. And better again tell me why I'm wrong. I'll learn more and I won't get offended!

Replying To ElGranSenor:  "I don't think us pulling in hurlers from development squads exclusively is really that different to other counties, Kilkenny maybe the exception

I don't like the current Championship structure but it's far from the biggest issue we have at senior inter-county level right now"
Kilkenny have pretty much the same system

I won't kick you when you are down lads. I listened to some of The Wexford Hurling Podcast and honestly thought some of it was "where are these lads getting their optimism from"? The pundit (I can't remember his name) was very positive but I was of the opinion that they must have seen a different match in Parnell Park.
You are all but out but honestly lads watching Clare v Tipp it was a world apart from anything in the Leinster Championship and it was a game with 3rd place on the line.
You have to be more realistic as a county lads. I can probably say we given where I am now but we need to face up to the fact that our game needs huge investment in coaching and manpower, not facilities.
The game needs to become a 12 month game with using 4G pitches to improve players and provide a year-round game.
Colleges hurling needs to be looked at and seriously considered as to how best to take it forward. Hurling needs to become an intrinsic part of school, not an after-thought.
No quick solutions and no easy answers but hurlers are made again the side of the house or in the back garden and this is what all parents need to learn and promote."
We need to get the best coaches in the county involved with county teams. Hard to do at the minute.

Have to get every advantage we can nowadays ;-)

Replying To ElGranSenor:  "Also have to remember that our good 2017-2021 sides were backboned by the U21-winning teams from 2013-2015

However, Leinster was very weak back then, Galway weren't allowed to compete, Offaly weren't at the races, and those 2013-2015 KK U21 teams were desperate. We were able to win Leinster but we still couldn't really touch either Clare or Limerick

Those 2022-'23 U20 teams might not have won Leinster but they only lost by 1 to KK and 2 to Offaly in the Leinster Finals and KK won that AI and Offaly were competitive enough with Cork. IMO, the talent level of our 2022-'23 U20 teams was similar enough to our 2013-'15 U21 teams

Have a good base to build around with lads who will be 21-24 next year provided they all commit and all work on their S&C:

Joe Barrett (?)
Eoin Whelan
Eoin Ryan
Darragh Kehoe
Cian Molloy
Conor Foley
Darragh Carley
Richie Lawlor
Corey Byrne-Dunbar
Cian Byrne
Cillian Byrne
Seán Rowley
Simon Roche
Oisín Pepper
Tucker Kinsella
Jack Redmond"
I think Joe Barrett is a bit older, 26/27. Don't forget Michael Dundon too. I don't know if playing with an unfashionable hurling club tells against him but he's def worth a look at.

Yeah but they don't have to worry about football plus you could argue this has been their worst era in a long while, must be a long time since they went the guts of a decade without winning an All-Ireland

Had it in my head that Joe Barrett was wing-back on that U20 team in 2022

Don't think he will commit anyway so his age doesn't really matter

Joe Barrett played in the u20 Leinster Final loss to Kilkenny in 2022. He's around the same age as Patsy. If he's not already he will be 23 sometime this year. He got asked to join the panel this year.

Limerick were the 1st county to bring in the development squad system. Can't say it has worked out too badly for them...

Tbf though, development squads have been around for a while now and Limerick would've had a good few development squads before they struck gold with the 1994s/1995s/1996s

The systems they have currently was introduced after they had a root and branch review of their hurling after the AI defeat in 2007.

I agree with you 100%. He has taken the game to a total different level in terms of strategy and intensity.

I wouldn't overlook the contribution of Caroline Currid either.

I was watching the Harriers seniors doing a drill in about 3sqm pitch and every time a ball went dead a new one went in. It's straight out of the Kinnerk Bible and you wouldn't have seen a county team at that level of intensity two decades ago nevermind a middle of the road club team.

Onto this coming weekend I suppose.

We're assured of nothing.... But assuming we get a big performance this weekend we need to be trying to wrack up a massive score to give us something to play for the last day. We're 25pts behind Dublin so we need Antrim to make their game competitive and for us to blow Offaly away (which I'm not confident of at this moment).

Starting with our best on the pitch

1. No point Talking about it
2. S Reck (if fit)
3. Jippo
4. E Ryan
5. C Molloy
6. D Reck
7. C Foley
8. Donohue (he won't drop him)
9. Hearne
10. Lawlor
11. Chin
12. K Foley
13. Byrne
14. Mac
15. ROC

Dunbar and Jack could do something from the bench.

I didn't realise how much we miss Mogie until Saturday

We have to speed up our hurling at every level Doyler. You are better than a middle of the road club team!!!
